I assume that you will have some knowledge of SEO being involved with your Forum "Z"..or that you may have at sometime become aware about it in connection to who ever created it for you .

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is something that has become popular since the evolvement of google and search engines.

There is now quite a lot of new jobs created and persons who become SEO consultants..

At one time it may have been quite rare and maybe in the earlier days those who had the knowledge and skills may have made a good income from it..
and probably some still do so...but now there is more competition.

It can be quite complex.. and involved and it helps if one is good with words as well as programming skills.
As being good at related and descriptive phasing and coming up with relevant associated wording is part of the ability and skill involved , although there are tools to aid them.

It is something that is probably more understood by Computer geeks...but is a service that is become popular towards anyone who has a website..in particular more lately Businesses that have a website who want to promote themselves online.

Someone who learns about or understands SEO can then add various word phrases within the design of parts of ones website within its Programming such as within its HTML or PHP Language especially with relation to major keywords and images that relate to that businesses or websites main descriptive topic that relate to it.

So for eg, a Business that say is in a particular niche or that sells products or offers a service related to a particular subject, topic or profession ...for eg...say a Garage  business. that maybe sells certain cars or maintains them and maybe within a particular area or town .

Popular keywords maybe the type of cars that they sell..

say.."Ford Escort" or a specific model..

Another related phases to their business maybe "Maintain" "service" MOT or "repair" for that model. say within your local town.

as an example he may create a description such as ..

Ford Escorts for sale in (say somewhere) in Las Vegas.

There may be a picture of a Ford Escort in Las Vegas
or with some ref to Vegas on the image...

so the SEO expert may give a descriptive title in the HTML for  that image..sometimes these are just very basic descriptions.

he may title it say "Ford Escorts in Vegas"

Images with specific descriptions can be picked up maybe better and quicker on google and sometimes stand out better..

or they may write some phrases such as ..

Ford Escort  Service and Repair in Las Vegas

There is a keword search tool on google that allows you to write in a keyword or phrase and it will then give you many other related or similar words and phrases that people search for..

the SEO expert may then use that to obtain many other suggestions as to what to consider using in the descriptions within ones website.


For them to get noticed within the search engines..

If they have a website... there will be various descriptions of the business and what they do or the services that they offer and the products that they may sell.

Certain Keywords and Phrases for these are what people may write within google or various other search engines.

Within the website they have whats known as tags wrote in the HTML language and Images that need to have a description.

What the SEO expert would try to do is maybe rewrite certain descriptive parts & retitle Images to be wrote in a way to meet the most popular associated keywords and phrases that people write in a search engine such as google when doing a search.

Because someone has gone to the effort to write these descriptions within the websites language coding... it then gets picked up by the search engines. and comes higher up in the search rankings.

The SEO expert may also create several other webpages just related to certain keywords and phrases related to that business or things that relate to it..

These then all link back to the main website and help the business website get found more easily by those searching for those particular descriptions.

There is an art to it and it can be quite complex and very time consuming..

but if done correctly a website will get a lot of Free traffic....and this may last for some time..

unless a competitor comes along and also attempts the same thing... if they do a better job, they get a better ranking say on google..

And this does go on as the website rankings for some major companies often change...

and there are ways to obtain a competitors SEO.
and then copy it or use it to help one create a better version on one with another website.

SEO can also be used for any type of website...and forums..

I think maybe for eg this forum has certain things built in it that automatically create SEO within it..
for eg with the many various related topics that you cover on PRC... be it Conspiracies, UFOs, Aliens. Free Energy, or what ever..

If you wanted this forum to become much more well known using and doing extra SEO could be the best way to go.

SEO when done right, is supposed to get Free visitors to ones website for quite some time ...maybe for years to come.. which could be free if one learns how to do it themselves..and finds time and one actually gets around to applying or to do it..

The problem is its time consuming and tedius.

but tools can help one do it quicker..

otherwise you have to pay someone to do it for you.

but maybe its better rather than say paying for daily or weekly advertising.such as googles adwords..where you pay daily to have small ads appear on related webpages or on googles search engine pages for related topics to say PRC.


Since the Internet has become so competitive..

the cost of Adwords for many niches has become very expensive..

but some businesses or companies still pay to use adwords and in many cases pay a lot more than they need to..
 
I know of one businessman who set up an Internet Business as a one man business a few years ago selling Information products..

and he used adwords to promote his website that sold his products... and at the time he was paying a pittance of a few cents/ pennies per every click to place an advert to to get a certain amount of visitor to click on his advert /link that took people to his website.

but now for that same niche... now you may have to pay £$ 5 to £$10 or more for every visitor who has clicked on his advert on google on a very narrowed descriptive word or phase related to his product or business description.

when he did this  a few yrs ago he made over a £ Million pounds in profits on his sales.

SEO is also now very expensive to do in some cases if one attempts to do as good  a job to really get a website ranked highly in the search engines.

But the model of google shifted towards the " pay for me to sit at the top of google". I have my own website, heck I even made some for other clients and maintained some peoples websites.

Yes you can still make certain words attractive to google by putting in tags and messing with your meta tag etc. But this really really doesn't improve your search engines that much anymore.

Google actually calls you now and just asks, hey want us to 'improve" your website related search. in other words, pay us.
Its a scam, a big ponzi from google.

When I created my business website the first month I got a letter with 50 free euros to spend on traffic improvement. Didn't reply or care.
2 months later I got the same letter but with 70 euros to spend, still not interested.

I see nothing unusual about that statement, apart from the few. in recent years... who has? That's why I stopped with the Ufology all together ( not counting content on this site ) and started focusing more on down to earth events.

I had at one time seen lectures about SEO...and did get some idea what it was about, but it was not something that appealed to me as It seemed a lot of tedius and repetitive work without guaranteed results.

I think the problem is it can work if one learns to do it ones self and can have the discipline to apply it...but it also depends upon how competitive that your topic or niche is.... As so many others have learned about it and tried or managed to apply it.

And those with bigger budgets and time can hire the better experts who are probably cleverer than the average person that they get better results.

On some niches /topics / subjects however... I think even some very basic SEO can still work quite well.
and you can be ranked for certain phrases/keywords  quite quickly.

Adding Images and doing videos with the right keywords and phrases I believe can get some of the best results..and I think these at times can help get high upon the rankings.

Also if you can get testimonials say on your website or from certain blogs or other websites that  can also help get better results.

The other main thing that perhaps that I did not mention, was as Zorgon says.. linking to or having links to ones website from other websites.

Especially the bigger well known ones and I believe being linked to Government websites can give very good for ranking purposes. No doubt several other types of sites.

I think if I recall.. certain Gurus who do SEO.. may have ways or use special software to be possible to find one of the highly ranked sites and to be able to find out who they are linked to..and to get all their links to the websites that they link to..

Then they try to link to the same ones or attempt to do some better SEO to those sites..

Then they can out rank the big boys in certain cases.

It may become a cat and mouse situation once the big boys find out they have lost their number one position in the rankings.

I did a post with a specific question on a main website the other day...

a few days later I put that question in google and to my surprise my post was on page one..

OK it did link to the website that Id posted to... but it stood out and was to my particular post and question.

but If I had a website, I could have had my link within that post that may have got me traffic for anyone searching for that same question.

But maybe I can guess.

Are these for both either general online ads of mobile phone type text ads or for both ?

I am aware that one can post ads on certain websites if they allow them...but usually as banner or box ads.

Text type ads maybe are like we see on google ads.

Just a few lines of words with a link to a website.

and as far as I know you have to pay the owner of the site to say place an ad on their website for a set fee and agreed time frame. say maybe on a daily weekly or monthly basis.

So I assume you are willing to accept any ads that you agree to carry if someone contacts you.

Where are these ads placed on your site ?

I cannot see very many ads on your forum.. unless they are starring me in the face as I am looking and not observing them as obvious as they maybe.

Are they within the posts being made or somewhere on your website or both ?

You tube carry ads often in a way that they are on what seems like a strip ad across the screen of the actual video as one watches.. and sometimes they may just last so long or maybe even change to other follow up ads from other advertisers...so it maybe that their ads only last so long as one watches the video.

I have not as yet looked into the Mckinnon Story in any detail.

Looking at this wikipedia site, it suggests that he hacked 97 Military and Nasa computers over 13 months.

McKinnon was accused of hacking into 97 United States military and NASA computers over a 13-month period between February 2001 and March 2002, at his girlfriend's aunt's house in London,[3] using the name 'Solo'.[2]
The US authorities stated he deleted critical files from operating systems, which shut down the United States Army’s Military District of Washington network of 2,000 computers for 24 hours. McKinnon also posted a notice on the military's website: "Your security is crap". After the September 11 attacks in 2001, he deleted weapons logs at the Earle Naval Weapons Station, rendering its network of 300 computers inoperable and paralyzing munitions supply deliveries for the US Navy's Atlantic Fleet. As for Gary using computers or the internet again...maybe for his SEO job.

It seems in the early stages of his bail he was..

but since he did not get sent to the USA.

I can only assume his situation has since changed and his ban been dropped.

He's also chosen to talk now because his chances of getting a job have diminished to practically zero. "For the first time in the past few years, I just had a solid work offer," he says. "Game-testing. Which would have been a dream for me. I'm still a big kid like that. I'd love to do that for a job. But now, as a condition of this bail, I'm not allowed to touch the internet. It seems quite credible to me what hes saying.

He explains how he went about doing the Hack..

and my impression of Gary from what he says , he seems a very intelligent guy other than the act he got caught and had not caught a screen shot  of any valid thing !

Otherwise his explanations sound interesting.

What I am still unsure about is how does he stand today..
I am not sure the articles I read made it clear as to if he is now
still being or going to be further punished for what he did.

I think he no longer is being held to be extradition to the USA where he may have been given a 60 to 70 yrs sentence.

I assume now he is also not been sentenced in the UK.

On the Wikipedia site this seems the latest update on his situation.
as of from 2012.

but again I am not sure what happened after or if or how the UK delt with him further . if at all.

I just listened to the video that he posted on this thread and took some notes..

I am posting what I wrote here that may help if anyone need to refer to some of the details in the video.

Notes to this Interview with Gary Mckinnon.



Gary had searched for blank default or admin passwords,

wrote a tiny pearl script program that tied together
other peoples programs.

so he could scan for blank passwords on 65,000 computers within 8 mins.

of which there may only be say 5000 machines
actually live at the time...with others coming
live online later through the day..

some may have been using windows..
I assume others using some other operating system.

and so many (Maybe 15 ) had blank or admin type passwords still set to default. that had unset passwords and I assume one could just type in "admin"..as the password..to access it/them. or create a new password to gain access.

He says also some had some sort of image..that he was able to use to allow him to access the default ones.

He then had access to many computers that had blank admin passwords set as default where he says as that the door was open for access.

password settings and he could then search for related files and evidence with connection with the UFO question.


There were also other hackers online on the DOD Sites at the time
he was searching from all over the world.

he suggested some were from the foreign govts
, I also assume maybe secret services.

He assumed or didn't think that they were also caught.

Asked how he avoided being detected over 2 yrs.

He says he was able to search through their computers on and off over about 2 years.more or less undetected..

He says he was able to use some software to obtain access to the desktop  screen that he had control of.. like "PC anywhere" but was  called "Remotely anywhere".

but he had at least one or two  incidents where he had been
detected, on one occasion he saw someone move the mouse
into the remote area network icon and disconnect him.

I am not sure if they could have took action at that time to have reported him to the right persons who may have been able to track him down ..

on another occasion he was detected he was able to get away with it by having an online chat with a network engineer who detected him and asked him on wordpad.. Gary replied by saying he was from a on online military security dept. that the engineer fully believed.

He says he was careful about which hours he visited the sites
and varied different times and often visited in the night.

He said when he was accessing the sites back in 2002..
he was using old SLOW technology of dial up days that if he
attempted to download anything that it took a long time..
and he struggled to download images.at.5 mins a megabyte.

I am sure many of us recall them days..!

but he has said that he was able to download some images even if he had to alter the resolutions to do so.

he says that the image/s showed up as frame by frame.. as a
java type thing... I suspect meaning the image would only
become visible for short periods and maybe was not good
enough to obtain a screen shot of it..he says it showed up one
frame at a time.. then on that occasion says he was then cut off.

was this the only occasion he found such an image I wonder.

If so it seems he says he was cut off at such a time.. !!!

He had mentioned about a book about Disclosure that had mentioned about the various things that he wanted to search for.

but He has suggested that he found various evidence of UFO stuff. as I think that I understand him.

It was then a few months later that he was caught..in which he claims he was monitored and been aware about for 3 months before.

It then describes about why he was charged and some new laws that the US had brought in as to why and how they were trying to sentence him.Maybe down to 9/11.

He says he had hacked before and after 9/11.

He says that the US says he would have to serve a year for every $5000 s worth of damage he may have created.

had he done damage to all the machines that he hacked...of at least $5000 each machine.

were the machines special or standard computers.

Gary says its possible he could have done some damage..but doubts  $5000 per machines worth.and he says Computers in the USA are cheaper than in the UK and maybe worth $500 each.

Also he did not think that the machines were anything special and were just standard computers as they used windows and just had standard internet connection with standard password functions.

Unless they also had other very expensive software on them that he may have damaged that maybe has not been explained.

He says he had no intentions to do any damage..and it had not been in his interest to have done so.

He finish's of by giving some details as to what actions could be taken to avoid hackers. Offering some technical explanations.
