Well, its T minus 6 days and counting, Thanksgiving Day
has rolled around once again, and I tought it would
be a fun topic for a light hearted thread.

I dont cook Turkey but once a year for the most part,
yet when that day comes it takes some prepping for sure
and those cooks who do this year after year know
wingin it can be too stressful. I learned this the hard
way....lol. First Turkey I ever did on my own I was
in a hurry, and the bird was still partly frozen
which made it a real pain to work with, to say the least.
Still, I thought I had done well washing it, oiling it
with Olive Oil and some spices, got it in its pan
and dialed the temp right, put the timer on.
Then I moved on to the trimmings. But wait,
where were the giblets and neck that my
Grammy and Mom always used for gravy
and stuffing? Hmmmm....I guess my Turkey
must have come without them....did not have
a timer either. Dang! So, I moved on anyhow.
Then hit another snag, so I called my mom
up she gave me her advice, then I mentioned
that I had no giblets or neck. Haha well come to
find out, I did they were just still in a frozen
cavity somewhere!

Had to pull that bird out of the oven, and dig
in and find them....fortunately they were not
yet cooked and found the timer too!
So, I learned my lesson, and now plan
ahead, and have experimented with many
different types of Turkey preps, and methods.
Brining, bagging, tenting, breast side down,
BBQ, and deep fried. My favorite prep
idea is now growing my own herbs,
love that!
And, that is just the Turkey side of it!
Thanksgiving is so much more, other
favorite dishes, festivities, family and
freinds, traditions passed on generation
to generation.
And most of all, it is an opportunity to
at least once a year to express how fully
grateful for all that we have.
Well, I hope you all will share some good
times here, recipies, games, and any other
thing, even jokes. I know many of us will
be busy, so I also want to take a moment
and express my thanks to Z for being such
a good host here on Peggy, and to you all
what a great bunch of folks. I am so thankful
for all of you!
