ECO-REVOLUTION: GMO Crops TORCHED in America

Apparently there's a media blackout on this story, kids; but I figured that some here might want to know about it.  A fairly significant development, here.  From the article:-

Though the controlled corporate media apparatus is suppressing the story, 40 tons of GMO crops were torched, prompting an FBI investigation. There has been a COMPLETE MEDIA BLACKOUT, outside of local circles has dared to mention it, perhaps because government fears that if the public learns that other people are getting fighting mad (literally), they might join in, and become an actual revolution. It was only reported locally live on KXL Radio and echoed by the Oregonian, where the ONLY web mention exists, hard to find because the headline wording is carefully avoids the most likely keywords for a search.

I'd encourage sending this one out via Facebook, Twitter, and all of the usual suspects re social media that you have access to.  This is a big story, and people need to know.  Apparently, the Americans are finally starting to wake up; and not a moment too soon.

Monsanto exec gets ‘Nobel Peace Prize’ of food

Quote
In a blatant act of transgression against the population of the world and real science, the agricultural equivalent to the ‘Nobel Peace Prize’ known as the World Food Prize has been given to a Monsanto executive and two associates for their role in the development of genetically modified crops.

Robert Fraley, the chief technology officer at Monsanto, will be given $250,000 cash along with his prestigious award that was presented at the US State Department on Wednesday.

It’s ironic, really, because the US State Department just so happens to also be using our tax dollars to market Monsanto internationally with promotional marketing DVDs and pamphlets. To put it simply, they quite literally act as a marketing wing for Monsanto — the corporation that might as well be a government entity.

It is rather fitting, then, that Monsanto’s executive be adorned with the World Food Prize along with a sack of cash at the headquarters of the Monsanto marketing wing that is the US State Department.

But of course there are also two other scientists being honored for their works against human and environmental health, so it’s important to also identify these corporate scientists as well. First up you have Mary-Dell Chilton, who founder of the rising star biotech company Syngenta, the same great company charged for covering up the fact they knew their own GM corn had been killing animals after consumption. An admission that would ultimately doom their bottom line profits and unveil the reality that Syngenta’s GM crops are indeed unfit for consumption.

As for the third scientist, Marc Van Montagu, he is a European cheerleader for GM crops who founded the Institute of Plant Technology Outreach at Ghent University in Belgium in order to help Monsanto get a stronger foothold in European nations that reject GM crops.

So why have these individuals been given a World Food Prize, especially when over 900 scientists working under the United Nations were forced to admit after extensive research that GMOs lead to decreased yields and are easily outperformed by traditional farming with ease? Probably the same reason that the US government continues to support Monsanto despite complete public disapproval and outcry.

The same conclusion that GM crops cannot feed the world was also reached in the report Failure to Yield following 20 years of research. Nevertheless, the World Food Prize has gone to these manipulators of the food supply in open opposition against human health and sustainability. As to why, the president of the World Food Prize Foundation stated:

“These three scientists are being recognized for their independent, individual breakthrough achievements in founding, developing and applying modern agricultural biotechnology,” said foundation head Kenneth Quinn.

Hungary won't tolerate GMO seeds, burns 1,000 acres of corn
5/22/2013

Quote
Think you can plant genetically modified seeds with your crop and no one will notice? Better not try it in Hungary, where agriculture officials literally took a scorched-Earth approach to GMO seeds, which are banned there, and burned 1,000 acres of corn crops. Much of what was burned was believed to have come from seeds made at the genetic-engineering company Monsanto, but farmers complained they didn't realize the seeds were modified — and Monsanto denies selling any seeds to Hungary farmers. An independent laboratory in France tested the seeds Monsanto says they sold to Hungary and found no GMO. GMO seeds are allowed across much of the rest of the European Union, but there is growing world-wide objection to Monsanto and other genetically engineered food producers. [Source]

GMO sugar beet plants sabotaged in Ore. fields

By TIM FOUGHT, Associated Press
Sunday, June 23, 2013

Quote
PORTLAND -- Genetically modified sugar beets growing in two fields in Southern Oregon's Jackson County were destroyed this month in what the FBI called "economic sabotage."

The agency said in a statement that about 1,000 sugar beet plants were destroyed on June 8, and more than 5,000 plants were destroyed on a different plot three nights later.

Both are owned by a Swiss-based company, Sygenta, the agency said. Calls to the company were not immediately returned.

The statement called the losses significant but said the agency wouldn't release damage estimates "due to the needs of the investigation."

FBI spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele wouldn't say how the crops were destroyed. "We're not commenting on the specifics because we don't want to encourage copycats," she said.

No arrests have been made, she said.

Genetic engineering is an issue in Jackson County, where growers of organic crops such as sugar beets and alfalfa say they want to guard against cross-pollination.

A group of advocates for biotechnology, Oregonians for Food and Shelter, offered a $10,000 reward for information in the case.

GMO Crop Sabotage on the Rise: French citizens destroy trial vineyard

Posted on August 16, 2010 by Rady

Quote
Early Sunday morning, French police stood helpless as sixty people, locked inside an open-air field of genetically modified grapevines, uprooted all the plants.  In Spain last month, dozens of people destroyed two GMO fields. On the millennial cusp, Indian farmers burned Bt cotton in their Cremate Monsanto campaign. Ignored by multinational corporations and corrupt public policy makers, citizens act to protect the food supply and the planet.

The French vineyard is the same field attacked last year when the plants were only cut. But the security features installed after that incident kept authorities at bay while the group accomplished its mission yesterday.

Speaking for the group, Olivier Florent told Le Figero that they condemned the use of public funds for open-field testing of GMOs “that we do not want.”

Pitching tents in the rain near France’s National Institute for Agronomic Research (INRA) site in Colmar the night before, the group waited until 5 AM before converging on the site and locking the gates behind them. They uprooted all 70 plants, then submitted to arrest.

This is the second attack on GMO crops to make international news this year. In July dozens of people destroyed two experimental corn crops in Spain. In an anonymous press release, they wrote, “This kind of direct action is the best way to respond to the fait accompli policy through which the Generalitat, the State and the biotech multinationals have been unilaterally imposing genetically modified organisms.”

Uprooting ecoterrorism: Syngenta GM crops sabotaged in Spain
Posted on July 14, 2010 by geobear7

Quote
Today, 12th July 2010, dozens of people came together to sabotage two experimental GM Maize trials belonging to Syngenta, located in the municipality of Torroella de Montgrí (Baix Empordà, Girona, Catalunya).

We destroyed Syngenta’s open-air genetic experiment because we understand that this kind of direct action is the best way to respond to the fait accompli policy through which the Generalitat, the State and the bio-tech multinationals have been unilaterally imposing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in our agriculture and our food.

The Spanish State, with more than 75,000 hectares sown in 2009, represents a concentration of approximately 80% of the surface area of GMOs harvested in Europe.  After Aragon, Catalonia is the area of Europe that harvests the largest area of GMOs, around 27,000 hectares. In recent years, 42% of the experimental GMO field trials OMG in the EU have been planted in the Spanish State.

India: Smart Farmers Burn Monsanto's GE Cotton

by Roberto Verzola, Secretary General, Philippine Green Party

"Indian farmers are smart chaps," said Dr. Sivramiah Shantharam when he talked before the DOST [the Philippines' Department of Science and Technology] last November 25 on the controversial topic of genetic engineering. Shantharam related that in his younger days, he worked in India for a firm selling agricultural chemicals, and that he learned from experience to appreciate the wisdom of Indian farmers. "Indian farmers know exactly what they need. You may fool them once, but if you do it again, they will chase you out of the village," said Shantharam, who is today a branch chief of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

On the same week as Shantharam's DOST talk, the farmers of Karnataka, India were showing exactly how smart they were.

Minister was unaware

On November 16: The Indian public was informed by local newspapers that Monsanto "has been conducting 40 field trials with genetically manipulated cotton across five Indian states for the last three months." Monsanto was testing a genetically engineered (GE) corn that automatically produced its own insect-killing poison (the Bt toxin). Monsanto had earlier bought into a local company to carry out the GE field trials. Karnataka Agriculture Minister C. Byre Gowda admitted that he had been informed of the on-going trials but was unaware of where they were being undertaken.

On November 20: Indian newspapers reported that the Karnataka State Farmers Association (KRRS) had issued a deadline to the State Government and Monsanto to disclose the places where the trials were being conducted and the exact description of the GE cotton seeds that were being tested. '"Monsanto should reveal immediately where the trials are being conducted" failing which "direct action would follow on the company's office in Malleswaram," their president Prof. Nanjundaswamy said. "Monsanto will have to leave the country within a week. Otherwise we will be forced to throw them out," Prof. Nanjundaswamy angrily said.

On November 24: The Minister of Agriculture of Karnataka held a press conference, where he was forced by journalists to reveal the three sites where field trials with Monsanto's GE cotton were being conducted.

Civil disobedience

On November 26, Prof. Nanjundaswamy circulated the following letter: "Monsanto's field trials in Karnataka will be reduced to ashes, starting on Saturday. ...KRRS activists have already contacted the owners of these fields, to explain to them which action will be taken, and for what reasons, and to let them know that the KRRS will cover any losses they will suffer. On Saturday the 28th of November, at midday, thousands of farmers will occupy and burn down the three fields in front of the cameras, in an open, announced action of civil disobedience."

On November 28, the Karnataka farmers released a statement:

" Today the farmers of Karnataka will reduce to ashes one of the illegal field trials that the criminal organisation Monsanto is carrying out in the country. This action will mark the beginning of a campaign of civil disobedience called Operation 'Cremation Monsanto,' which will soon be continued in Karnataka and other Indian states.
"The field that will be burned today belongs to Basanna, who came to know what kind of plants were growing in his field only last Wednesday, when Byre Gowda (Minister of Agriculture of Karnataka) mentioned his name as he disclosed the three sites where Monsanto's trials are being conducted in Karnataka.

Experiment without farmer's knowledge

"According to Basanna's testimony, officials of Mahyco Monsanto went to his farm in July and proposed him to grow, free of cost, a new variety of cotton seeds, which they claimed would give very good results. He could not suspect that their intention was to carry out an experiment on genetic engineering without his knowledge and consent, risking the future viability not only of his farm, but of his complete community.
"The officials of Mahyco Monsanto, who have signed a written declaration admitting their illegal behavior, went regularly to apply manure and pesticides to the Bt cotton, including heavy doses of insecticides. However, the plants are infested with bollworm (the pest that Bt cotton is supposed to control) and other pests like white fly and red-rot. Despite the heavy use of chemical fertilizer, traces of which still can be observed in the field, the Bt plants grew miserably, less than half the size of the traditional cotton plants in the adjacent fields.

"No single biosafety measure (e.g. buffer zone around the genetically engineered cotton to reduce biopollution, construction of a fence around the field, etc) was undertaken by the Mahyco Monsanto. They did not even demarcate the field as biohazard area."

Uprooted, then burned

Later in the afternoon of November 28, they released another statement:

"The direct action campaign of Indian farmers Operation 'Cremation Monsanto' started today at 13:30 in the village of Maladagudda, north of Bangalore. Mr. Basanna, owner of the field where an illegal genetic experiment was being conducted without his knowledge, and Prof. Nanjundaswamy, president of KRRS (a Gandhian movement of 10 million farmers in the Southern Indian state of Karnataka), uprooted together the first plant of genetically modified cotton, inviting the rest of the local peasants to do the same. Within a few minutes, all the plants in the field were piled up and ready to be set on fire."
Taking their fight to the global arena, the Karnataka farmers also announced:

"...we are making an international call for direct action against Monsanto and the rest of the biotech gang. This call for action will hopefully inspire all the people who are already doing a brilliant work against biotech, and many others who so far have not been very active on the issue, to join hands in a quick, effective worldwide effort."
The farmers emphasized, "we are calling only for non-violent direct actions".

Monsanto hires Goon Squad to Hunt Activists

Monsanto hires infamous mercenary firm Blackwater to track activists around the world
Sunday, May 26, 2013 by: Carolanne Wright

Quote
(NaturalNews) Remember the private mercenary army Blackwater that caused such a stir in Iraq during an unprovoked attack in 2007? Apparently, Monsanto and the controversial security firm are in bed together, described by blogger Randy Ananda as "a death-tech firm weds a hit squad." At this point, you might be wondering what in the world the GM seed giant needs with the services of a 'shadow army'? It appears as though the corporation found it necessary to contract with Blackwater in order to collect intelligence on anti-Monsanto activists as well infiltrate their ranks.

Protest Monsanto, stalked by Blackwater

Notorious for the Iraqi Nisour Square Massacre, Blackwater "created a web of more than 30 shell companies or subsidiaries in part to obtain millions of dollars in American government contracts after the security company came under intense criticism for reckless conduct in Iraq," reports the New York Times. One of these subsidiaries became Total Intelligence, the company contracted by Monsanto between 2008-2010 to collect intelligence on activists rallying against GMO crops and other Monsanto activities. Journalist Jeremy Scahill states in The Nation:

"... entities closely linked to the private security firm Blackwater have provided intelligence, training and security services to US and foreign governments as well as several multinational corporations, including Monsanto, Chevron, the Walt Disney Company, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and banking giants Deutsche Bank and Barclays, according to documents obtained by The Nation. Blackwater's work for corporations and government agencies was contracted using two companies owned by Blackwater's owner and founder, Erik Prince: Total Intelligence Solutions and the Terrorism Research Center (TRC). Prince is listed as the chairman of both companies in internal company documents, which show how the web of companies functions as a highly coordinated operation."

A spokesperson representing Monsanto admits the company hired Total Intelligence for information "... about the activities of groups or individuals that could pose a risk to company personnel or operations around the world which were developed by monitoring local media reports and other publicly available information. The subject matter ranged from information regarding terrorist incidents in Asia or kidnappings in Central America to scanning the content of activist blogs and websites."

However, what the spokesperson fails to address is that according to documents secured by Scahill, Monsanto was willing to pay a sizable sum (up to $500,000) for Blackwater agents to infiltrate anti-Monsanto organizations.

As the plot continues to thicken regarding Monsanto's tactics of domination, Ananda aptly notes:

"... Monsanto, by hiring a mercenary army and former CIA field agents, is deadly serious about protecting its deadly products. Yet, this contract further discredits the company. The public can now paint an even bleaker picture of the firm that brought us Agent Orange, PCBs, rBST, DDT, aspartame and, now, hit men."

We have been "genetically engineering" plants for a long time.  But the plants have never been blended with insecticides or god knows what ELSE!  before, THAT is the crime. The plant has it, the corn, lets say, we eat the corn, it's deadly.  It is my understanding that there is no longer an ear of corn that hasn't  been  "monsantoed" The Farmers in my area, OR, say we should all be able to drink "insecticides" some day with no harm done. Cheery thought-NOT.

The  beets have been pretty much taken over by Monsanto, for quite some time.  So has canola (rape seed), but who is going to buy rape oil?  ::)

Here is a link about the GMO canola. It also lists most of the plant life that has been Monsantoed.  Just in case you want to know.  :(
