Sichuan Sinkhole Swallows At Least 12 Buildings (VIDEO)
Posted: 12/13/2013 2:03 pm EST

A sinkhole nearly 200-foot wide in China's Sichuan Province has swallowed at least 12 buildings and is expected to keep growing.

The sinkhole opened up around 12:40 a.m. Friday http://shanghaiist.com/2013/12/13/sinkhole-sichuan-province.php

in the city of Guangyuan, Shanghaiist reported. As of 6:30 p.m., the sinkhole had swallowed 12 buildings, but no one was seriously injured.

Many who have encounter sinkholes have not been so lucky. In March, a sinkhole opened up underneath the bedroom of a sleeping Florida man, swallowing him entirely.

In August 2012, a man in Taiwan was killed after falling into a huge sinkhole http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/03/sinkhole-opens-and-swallows-taiwanese-man_n_1738626.html

in the wake of a typhoon; and that same month,

an Idaho woman died after crashing into a sinkhole on the highway caused by gophers.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/09/gophers-cause-womans-death_n_1760928.html

35-Foot-Deep Sinkhole Swallows Part Of Missouri Golf Course

The Huffington Post    |  By  Ryan Grenoble
Posted:  05/22/2015 6:15 pm EDT    Updated:  3 hours ago

Golfers in Branson, Missouri, have some extra hazards to contend with after four sinkholes swallowed part of the Top of the Rock Golf Course on Friday.

The largest of the sinkholes abuts a pond on the course and is approximately 70 feet wide and 35 feet deep. According to KOLR10 News, a second hole measures 18 feet deep, while the other two are a (comparatively) smaller four feet deep

While the unexpected addition of extra holes to the course has forced staff to close the driving range, which sits next to the pond, Branson Tri-Lakes News reports that the rest of the area remains open for business.

Officials from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and geological engineers are reportedly monitoring the situation.

Hey -- at least they don't have alligators.
