Gofundme

A few weeks ago I made a thread in the MONEY section called

SO... you need MONEY?

The intent of that thread was to help people to find ways to make a few extra bucks in this tight economy and some tricks to help get you out of dept. There are many ideas there from small time scrap metal collection to major kick starter mega funding programs and everything else between.

One of the better ones that is out there started in 2010. It's called GOFUNDME.  It is basically a FREE service that makes it easy for the common person to set up literally in minutes, a funding site to get money for whatever personal need they have.

It doesn't matter what you are needing the money for, but it does require effort on your part.

How much does it cost?

Well technically it is FREE... at least to you the fund raiser. However GOFUNDME charges a small commission of 5% on monies collected and the WePay service, similar to Paypal that handles the cash like Paypal does, charges 2.9%  So that is 7.9% that comes out of the money donated.  Fair enough considering they do all the work.

All YOU have to do is promote your link... to friends and family; to colleagues; on your facebook or twitter page or via email. The more people that see the request, the more likely it is that someone will send you a little help

How does it work?

Basically you tell your story of why you need this money and then let your friends and contacts decide if it is worthy enough to send you a few dollars. Many people in this day and age are also struggling so don't expect  everyone to pitch in. But in that case pointing them to the GOFUNDME site might be a blessing for them as well as they too can start their own page.

Here is a brief tutorial video on how it works

Now since I found out about this I have posted my own page as most of you now already know. I want to thank everyone that helped out publicly right here. I will also send out a personal thank you but I do want to let everyone know that it is much appreciated. I know others out there are as bad off or worse of than I am... and I hope you all have a great new year and take advantage of this tool yourself.

I have received many letters of encouragement and several tips in lieu of cash. Sometimes a tip is worth more than money and I really appreciate the pointers

The link for my page is here;
We need a new family vehicle

Even before I opened my own request, three other people I know took avail of this service. The first was my wife asking to help fund her online business degree...

My wife's is here;
Money to Finish my BBA and New Computer

Amaterasu Solar also started one...
Planetary Solution Efforts

Hey Amy... I noticed you haven't Facebook verified that account yet. You need to do that so people can see your page

The Seeker, who stopped by the house to see John and myself before Christmas also was going to start one but I think he went to Kickstarter instead...

So make use of this tool and spread the word. I found out from google that Pegasus?Livingmoon.com has an average of 35,000 UNIQUE hits everymonth. THAT is a decent number to allow me to seek out affiliate accounts and other ways to promote the site.

We already have Amazon, which costs people ZERO dollars to use. They simply do their normal shopping at Amazon, but via our link... and we get a small percentage.

As it turns out Gofundme also has an affiliate account and they will pay out 2.5% (50% of their commission) for any account set up to collect funds using the Pegasus links

So if your ready to seek out some help for your cause... then sign up to Gofundme by clicking the logo below

And feel free to use THIS thread to post your links to your funding page. I am going to make this thread visible to guest viewing so we can take advantage of all those 35,000 monthly visitors.

Re Kickstarter

When I started telling people about these fund raising options several in our inventors group told me that Kickstarter would be an EXCELLENT idea to raise money and awareness for any one of several projects...

Well I am here to KICK you all on the backside  HARD with a sharp pointy toe :P

Why? Well yesterday Somamech pointed me to one project on Kickstarter that I think is right up our alley and very relevant to this program

What is it you ask?

Well you better sit doen ( on that sore butt :P ) because you will be kicking yourselves after you read this

The project:
oneTesla: a DIY Singing Tesla Coil

A DIY kit for a solid-state Tesla coil that plays music, shoots 2-foot-long sparks, and teaches you electronics.

Now here is the kicker...

The people involved in this project set a goal of $20,000.00...

So far to date (with funding goal ending Jan 24th) they have collected $165,570.00

That's right, you heard me $165,570.00

Their funding goal was Launched: Dec 28, 2012  and has 17 days to go

So all you inventors out there, whatcha all waiting for?  Do I have to drag you by the ear kicking and screaming? And why didn't YOU all think of this? :P

Ah week that is a problem  I had to open one too. :D  Ya kinda put on hip waders and a nose plug and plow on through. But you twitter a lot don't you? I didn't see any twitter heads on that list either. :P It won't work if you have zero FB or Twitter contacts and zero emails to send to ;)

Very nice, i might buy one of those Tesla coil kits, they are using smd IGBT transistors, very cool.
A bit steep at 250 bucks, but they sure do look nice.
As you know i fund everything myself for one very good reason, i don't want 'investors' hanging round my neck waiting for their returns, nor do i want anyone telling me what i should be doing.
PRC can do the same, we could easily get some gadget on the market like this one.
I'm thinking of a DIY self-lifting lifter 8) among other things.

If i am in a position to donate (depends on how much work i get in the coming weeks) then i am prepared to donate to Pegasus, that's where it's needed ::)
Also, i'm donating my time, and the first 2 (solar panel?) inverters to PRC.
Probably one for Zorgon, and one for Amy. I will even pay the postage, which won't be cheap as these things are big & heavy :P
But it's the least i can do for you guys ;)
Still, it's a good call, Z, gold for you :)

Greetings:

Solar panels are a great idea. Here's our contribution to your valiant effort:

How about a solar-powered Peggy radiation detector?

Make's roundup of DIY radiation detectors

YIKES! These guys are already on KickStarter...

John Baichtal says: "MAKE's interview with hardware hacker Akiba highlighted a fascinating trend:

individuals and small groups taking their safety into their own hands by creating, modifying, and networking radiation detectors,

a.k.a. Geiger counters, rather than relying on governments for information. The following projects and kits aim to put Geiger counters in the hands of ordinary makers."

I can think of dozens of great kits and apparatus' which can be assembled into an easy to market product line...

A trip to google..then...

Its just a mouser order away for most of us...

Why invest in someone elses effort, when we can create an effort of our own?

I have to admit  :-[

When I saw that kickstarter Tesla Coil in my email after a week away from the PC I thought "LE and PWM could do that" ;)

On that note regarding the Tesla coil, that is one slick Unit, and being someone who could not sit down and design one from scratch it has to be said that 250 bucks for a kit IS a Bargain ;)  (Market Feedback from someone who hasn't  ordered one, but heck I would love one)

Well seeing I am searching back in Siberia of late!

I came upon a great example of WHY making a BUCK aint bad for a Team/Guild or Community!

I would imagine most here have seen or read the story about those mysterious Metallic Disc's in Siberia right ?

Take a LONG and HARD look at what History Channel Dug up (apart from nothing lol) ?

I would expect if this was a Pegasus Expedition that it would operate like SG1.  None of this Bang the Stick in Mud Hole and make a buck BS along with a "member becomes sick, we better go home wimp action".

Guess what I am saying is that I am sick to death of reading crap or watching it being left on the hook all the time.

Making Coin to Investigate, or Present in a Post Mayan World should not be frowned upon, it may just allow the right people to do the work ;)

We attempted (once again) to focus a bit of the brainpower in this thread on a project that has the potential of making real money as soon as it is manifested in this plane.

LeDave - this would seem to be an afternoon project for you and Luke coordinating efforts to whip up a prototype for discussion and possible refinement.

We will handle all graphic collateral needs and coordinate a worldwide sales effort... tick tock, tick tock.

It's not like there isn't a ready-made market for such a device.

And we have an angel investor awaiting information... ;D

IF we can come up with something workable - IT WILL SELL    :P

And look carefully at previously-funded projects whilst at Kickstarter - this is a go-home deal!

We hope to have made a point here.

Let's have some fun and make some a large amount of money.    8)

(Never mind the apparent attitude (you know the real us) - in a hurry to post as we have a run to the Greenville airport to pickup Sweetie, fresh from a 10-day SoCal vacation. Do Japanese really tan?)    :o

I have an idea.....

It will be for a detector of sorts  and should bear the pegasus name..

But I cannot assemble the prototype..

Now I cannot tell you what it is... Why? because if I post the idea here in a thread BEFORE we have the marketing plan to post on Kickstarter then anyone reading this thread will be able to make it before us.

Corporate secrets are the most fleeting.

Let me tell you a story...

Senator Donald Harding, who was going to help fund our Theme Park project made his fortune in Radio. One day he had an idea for a cool radio show and discussed it with his friends in a restaurant that he did all his business in.

Well someone in the next booth over heard and took notes. Just TWO WEEKS later this idea for the radio show was on air in New York...

Moral of the story... if you have a great idea... shut up until you have the copyright secured.

So I need someone that can make a prototype electronic device. It will be simple... it has 4 maybe 5 settings :D

PM me if your interested ;)

First of all..Ill entertain that pm Zorgon.

Now, Thor...after a bit of research, Im finding the key to a decent diy rad detector is going to be the tube used for the receiver. They are few and far between and almost impossible to find in any quantity of moe than a couple. Also, if one is found, the price of it makes mass production quite the conundrum.

Soooo....why not instead of figuring out how to make a detector and from available parts...come up with a decent way to make these tubes ourselves?

Seems to me the thing missing from this whole picture isnt the number of different devices which schematics and plans are available for, its the tubes which stop the production of kits...every time.

Off to examine the methods of creating a simple to build muller tube, and then we can talk proper about some sort of device like we spoke of earlier..perhaps and app which works with a premade sensor which plugs into the headphone jack of an iphone or droid, or even a device which attaches to the shirt pocket and bluetooth links with a smartphone.......

Hehehe....thinking hard..now dont run off and take my ideas leaving me in the dirt guys! LOL!!!

Cheers!
