Helpful or harmful? Daylight Saving-time.
« on: March 12, 2019, 01:08:24 PM »
:)    Their is only 1 state on the continental U.S.A. that does not do Daylight Savings Time that's Arizona. Except for the Navajo reservation there in. This thing we do with our clocks has been under controversy since it was started.  Now that there have been a large number of studies done to measure the affect  Daylight Savings Time has on people it has been found that, indeed this thing we do with our clocks appears to actually cause an increase in car accidents and heart attacks.

                                                                        https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11152980

I have never liked Daylight Savings Time.  It always messes with my bio-clock too much.  ::)  Maybe its time to get rid of this self deception of adding more daylight to the day by moving the clock dial or changing the readout. lol.  Studies also show that there is no benefit to energy usage by implementing Daylight Savings Time.

If we decide to go without Daylight Saving Time.  It seems to me a good way to mitigate the affect on time lines, both biological and non would be to set the new time at the 1/2 way point of the hour we move back and forth.  In other words 30min. forward or back depending on when the change is enacted. Once done leave it there and get up early if you want more daytime. lol   ;D

Maybe we can take a vote here for a bit of reference as to the mental state of people about this ongoing conundrum.

What do you think we should do, keep or get rid of Daylight Savings Time?   :)

Studies also show that there is no benefit to energy usage by implementing Daylight Savings Time.
An example, please. :)

The whole idea of daylight savings time is to move the daylight hours to a time most people are awake, so people can use it. When the Sun rises at 5:00 most people are still sleeping, but they are awake when it sets at 20:00.

To me it doesn't make much of a difference, as my internal clock is independent of external clocks. :)

PS: in the EU they also talked about doing this, and there was an open vote on the Internet for some time to get people's ideas about it. The "end daylight savings time" opinion won, but when looking at the results we could see that most votes came from north European countries that have more extreme changes of daylight between Summer and Winter. Me, I prefer to have sunlight until late, as I do love sunlight. :)

I say move it forward and leave it; even tho I am generally up at 4 am each day, I prefer having the extra light in the evening hours also 8)

Thanks, WhatTheHey. :)

From that page it looks like they have just a handful of references, I suppose not many people have studied this subject. But they say something I mentioned on my previous post, that there's a difference between north and south.

I would prefer to stay on Standard Time.  As the days lengthen, we have more light hours in the evening anyway.  The  flipping and flopping plays heck with my circadian rhythm.  The spring forward, also leaves elementary school aged children waiting in less light at the bus stop in the morning.
