al-Ma'mun

Just popping this fellow in here as something that may interest people if they never heard of this era before like myself in this manner. It;s rather quite interesting in regards to a bunch of genome being dumped onto a rock ;)

I was listening to a fascinating interview with a Professor the other night at work who has released a book regarding Arabic Science in History which can be found here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pathfinders-Golden-Age-Arabic-Science/dp/0141038365

The interview of the Author I listened to is here:

http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/latenightlive/jim-al-khalili27s-life-scientific/5471224

Quote
Professor Jim Al-Khalili, OBE, has taken up the task of communicating science with a passion. Born in Baghdad to a Muslim father and a Christian mother, he describes himself as a 'cuddly Atheist'. A theoretical nuclear physicist, broadcaster and Chair in the Public Engagement of Science, one of his main concerns is the general apathy towards science and freedom of thinking across broad swathes of the Arabic world. For over seven hundred years the international language of science was Arabic and Iraq was a centre of scientific learning dating back to the 9th century. It was a flourishing which promoted freedom of thought and rational thinking and he discusses the need for another renaissance of this kind.

If the link could to Amazon could be adjusted to Zorgon's Amazon that would be great.  :)

Apart from finding this all amazing regarding the first hooman's so too speak in the modern time's who we all are belong to I guess...

It was amazing to hear how people have speculated as stated in the interview with the author (who I must say think's otherwise)  that the House of Wisdom may have been Holographic ?  WTF

House of Wisdom:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Wisdom

The Author of the article seems to not think as much, but all the same it was nice to hear something so left field in a radio interview with a professor who has considered the notion whether I agree with it or not ;)

PS I know this message will make sweet all potato sense... But heck I do have to post some more of my leftfield findings on the fly for people who may make sense of them or otherwise my gut's is for garders :D
