The one and only classic!

the Day the Earth Stood Still

Still good after all those years. I think I will go home now and watch it.

My Dad thought that movie so important that he closed the lab down and all of his staff went to see that movie together. Now thats a statement. In fact the information that fifteen staff members went to that movie was the ONLY information that survived about even the existance of that lab. Otherwise its purpose and activities have been swallowed and forgotten.

I wish I had been there....just to hear what they said to each other after the movie.   Linda

Understand that I can't speak Russian and I can't get videos or Utubes so I am in the dark about this but haven't we all seen this same picture somewhere. I particularly remember the insignias on it and the small figures in the foreground. So which came first... This one or the English version that we have seen ( I hope it wasn't just me!)  Linda

My favorite SciFi movies are:

The Forbidden Planet
It! The terror from Outer space (The Original 'Alien' movie)
When Worlds Collide
The Thing from Another World
Destination Moon
First Men in the Moon...

Just as a kid, these inspired me to relish all things SciFi
Non nobis, Domine, non nobis, sed nomini Tuo da gloriam

I think the lesson I learned from the Forbidden Planet stayed with me forever.... that sometimes the monsters that we worry so much about and are so terrified of  are merely manifestations of our own collective fears.

Einstein was asked once what the best question would be that he would like to see answered and his response was " Is the Universe a friendly place?"

And if you study what he is saying here..You will see that he is not looking for facts but what we perceive... I believe... is that our own fears make our world... if we fear the universe then we live in that fear..and we manifest that monster and invite him into our world..... with the need to arm ourselves  and be warlike and not give up on that aggressiveness.

If we realize that the world is friendly and safe..( if we SEE it that way).. then that is what we bring into it..... that is what it BECOMES and we could put those old fears away.... its a pretty impressive question really.   Linda

One of the first computer generated movies.... TRON... remember it.... scene with the principles talking in an office cubical.... on the wall..... those words...

They show up in other movies too but you really have to look for them.... I am sure its just a random nod to a great movie but people don't forget. I memorized those words when I first saw that movie and I was just a little kid..... Just in case!!!!

Our world would " stand still" too if everything electromagnetic simply stopped working. Think about it for awhile folks.... what that might mean....

So do Sci-fi writers surf us for ideas or do we surf them. In the old days did they surf science papers? It seems to go round and round.

I see a Deuem movie in the works! Yes it has to be in color.

I am working on a A51 short video.  Maybe a start..  Popcorn and cola at the box office.

When I was much younger, I rewrote the Tron cycle game and we played it for hours. I wish I still had it. It was more fun than most of the new games.

Obviously they don't or we wouldn't have so many sequels and flops...there are a few exceptions but it seems good movies are few and far between...just good ideas portrayed horribly on screen.

Heh I feel your pain most of the games I buy must have an editor so I can make my own FUN levels...I have games I have used the editors to make complete other games out of...not too often the single player stories compell one to keep playing out of repetition and boredom.

Awful dreadful bad movie! 0/5

Get Moon instead or Red Planet or Ghosts of Mars or 2001

John Carter another awful movie!

Apollo 18 wasn't that bad actually!

I was gonna make a movie on zee Moon and Mars and call it "Mars Wars" - it's epic!

War on Mars - part 1 then war on Moon part 2 then finale was war on Earth! All the ETs and their cultures represented.

Maybe one day...

If you haven't seen this film yet, I highly recommend that you do.
The special effects are amazing, considering the meager 7 million euro budget.
The jokes are not always funny, although their are some classic moments as well. With a better script I think it could have been a lot funnier. It is the latest movie from the makers of Space Wreck 1 & 2

The swastika moon base alone, makes sitting through this B movie gem worth the price of admission.
