Moon Lander Crashes
NASA Forgot how to go to the Moon part Two

Quote
Just days after a successful Mars landing NASA's experimental moon lander has crashed and burst into flames.

NASA's experimental moon lander has crashed and burst into flames seconds after takeoff due to a hardware fault, the US space agency said, prompting an investigation but no casualties.

The low-cost Project Morpheus lander prototype, designed to carry cargo to the moon and other space destinations, lifted off the ground successfully but then failed its first autonomous free-flight test at the Kennedy Space Center.

Fire crews rushed to extinguish the flames of Morpheus, large enough to carry 499kg of cargo to the moon, such as a humanoid robot, a small rover or a small laboratory to convert moon dust to oxygen.

"A hardware component failure, which prevented it from maintaining stable flight," was to blame, NASA said, noting that its engineers are examining test data to determine what caused the failure.

"Failures such as these were anticipated prior to the test, and are part of the development process for any complex spaceflight hardware," the space agency said in a statement.

"What we learn from these tests will help us build the best possible system in the future."

NASA has so far spent $US7 million ($A6.65 million) on the project, which aims to provide an environmentally friendly vehicle to land on the moon, asteroids and other surfaces in outer space.

It features a new propulsion system with oxygen and methane, both considered green fuels that are better for the environment than the rocket fuels NASA usually uses. They could be manufactured on other planets as well, according to the space agency.

The incident took place just days after NASA safely landed a robotic rover on Mars with the goal of finding traces of life that may have once existed on the Red Plane

Makes ya wonder if they really did do it before :P  considering they are starting from scratch. Did we just reset time?

NASA forgot How to go to the Moon

NASA scientist need to REVERSE ENGINEER the last remaining Saturn Five to remember how they did it. ot only did they lose all the tapes of the original landing... they also didn't keep any technical records of the launch hardware

Listen to Buzz in this video... when asked could these parts have worked..
He says "yeah they could have been tested"

The documents are at KGB headquarters more like.  as are the designs for the Space Shuttle and other craft!

How would you expect to find parts or drawing from a rocket that was never built and never went anywhere?

The alleged Saturn V that allegedly launched Apollo astro-nots to the moon was in actuality a Saturn IV modified to look like a Saturn V with just enough power to launch it out of camera range just before the second stage firing.

It’s possible that the Apollo astro-nots made it to low-earth orbit to wait out the lunar landing scam but then what are we to think of the Russian scientist report that no second stage firing was ever seen or ever filmed? Did they make it into low-earth-orbit with the first stage? The Russian scientist also says the Russian recovered one stage. Was it the first stage? Or the second stage?

If you are going to look for drawings or parts for a rocket that allegedly took the Apollo astro-nots to the moon you are assuming that a rocket was actually built and maybe even launched. They are certainly not going to keep drawings and parts around for a system that never worked. Or drawings or parts for a system (Saturn IV) that was designed to look like the real thing (Saturn V) What if somebody was going to try and make them work 43 years down the line. What then?

It’s more likely that if the Apollo program was a scam, and that no Saturn V was ever built or launched then it was certain they were not going to keep any parts around of Saturn IV designed to look like a Saturn V in case someone comes looking some 43 years later for parts to try it again.

The thinking then was probably to get rid of everything incriminating as technology would surely have advanced 43 years later to handle the problem and even if it hadn’t most of the perps would probably be dead.

They might have even floated a rumor many years later that an Apollo 18 or even 19 or even 20 had been launched and found mysterious buildings and that NAZA was covering up those launched.

Rather we face some rumors about phony additional launches than no launches at all.

Oh the tangled web we weave…

But let’s get real here.

A phony Apollo program? How about the 200,000 people that were involved in the Apollo program? How would you keep them quiet?  Not to mention the astro-nots? How would you keep them quiet? It’s not like any of these heroes are going to deck an inquisitive reporter. Are they?

That’s like saying that 32 years later you make 4 giant airliners disappear on national TV and call it a successful attack by a man in a cave with Windows Pentium leaving 7 of the 19 hijackers still alive.

Thant’s nuts.

Saturn 5 Blueprints Safely in Storage

By Michael Paine
Special to SPACE.com
posted: 06:34 am ET
13 March 2000

A NASA official has denied a claim made by a book author that blueprints for the mighty Saturn 5 rocket used to push Apollo astronauts to the moon were lost.
The denial came in response to a recent story in SPACE.com that reported on a claim John Lewis made in his 1996 book, Mining the Sky, that he went looking for the Saturn 5 blueprints a few years ago and concluded, incredibly, they had been "lost."

Paul Shawcross, from NASA's Office of Inspector General, came to the agency's defense in comments published on CCNet -- a scholarly electronic newsletter covering the threat of asteroids and comets. Shawcross said the Saturn 5 blueprints are held at the Marshall Space Flight Center on microfilm.

"There is no point in even contemplating trying to rebuild the Saturn 5 ... The real problem is the hundreds of thousands of parts that are simply not manufactured any more."

"The Federal Archives in East Point, Georgia, also has 2,900 cubic feet of Saturn documents," he said. "Rocketdyne has in its archives dozens of volumes from its Knowledge Retention Program. This effort was initiated in the late '60s to document every facet of F 1 and J 2 engine production to assist in any future restart."

Shawcross cautioned that rebuilding a Saturn 5 would require more than good blueprints.

"The problem in recreating the Saturn 5 is not finding the drawings, it is finding vendors who can supply mid-1960's vintage hardware," he wrote, "and the fact that the launch pads and vehicle assembly buildings have been converted to space shuttle use, so you have no place to launch from.

"By the time you redesign to accommodate available hardware and re-modify the launch pads, you may as well have started from scratch with a clean sheet design," he wrote.

In years past, rumors have abounded that in the 1970s the White House or Congress had the Saturn 5 plans destroyed "to prevent the technology from falling into the wrong hands".

That seems doubtful -- it would be a formidable terrorist group that decided to build a Saturn 5 to wreak havoc on the world, or build a lunar base. Also, by the1970s, the Soviets apparently had given up on the race to the moon.

Geoffrey Hughes from the Rotary Rocket Company supported Shawcross's view.
"There is no point in even contemplating trying to rebuild the Saturn 5," he said. "Having a complete set of Saturn 5 blueprints would do us no good whatsoever. True, we would still be able to bend the big pieces of metal fairly easily. But they are not the problem.

"The real problem is the hundreds of thousands of other parts, some as apparently insignificant as a bolt or a washer, that are simply not manufactured any more. Everything would have to be redone. So a simple rebuild would be impossible. The only real answer would be to start from scratch and build anew using modern parts and processes. Yet another immense challenge!"

It turns out that NASA is taking on that challenge, but not necessarily to chase asteroids.

Engineers at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center are working on designs for a new giant launch vehicle called Magnum. It would use a curious mix of Russian rocket engines -- derived from the abandoned Soviet Energia rocket program -- and newly developed strap-on, liquid-fueled boosters that would first be tested out on space shuttles.

The Magnum would use the space shuttle launch facilities at Cape Canaveral and could launch 80 tons (81,280 kilograms) of payload into low Earth orbit (LEO). This compares with around 20 tons (20,320 kilograms) for the piloted space shuttle, and for un-piloted vehicles like the U.S.' Titan 4-B and the European Space Agency's Ariane 5. Its lift capacity, however, would be less than the 100 tons (101,600 kilograms) that the Saturn 5 and Energia could manage.

The glaring obvious point in all this is that they remembered how to Land on Mars.. then a few days later we watch a few tanks of FOOL ignite and fail that should have have worked going by the logic of Apollo and last weeks Mars Mission.

You would have thought that a multibillion dollar agency would have thought of that, and made provisions for it, i have often had to update 60's machines to post 2000 tech, and it took me on average less than 6 weeks.
Tell NASA to give me a ring next time they try this ;)

Yes you can, in China & India & England.....

Besides, the shuttle doesn't launch on it's own, it has the (rather heavy) new heavy launch vehicle, surely that needs a massive pad, can't that be used for a saturn V??
So they could build a moon lander in the 60's that could land & take off again, but they can't do it now ???
And if you need 'vintage' 60's parts made, go to the countries that still use those machines & can still make the parts cheap, like China or India LOL

I bet Von Braun is turning in his grave: "Vot? No plans? are you crazy?, dummkopf americans"

 :) ;) :D ;D >:( :P

Why would nasa need the saturn 5? all space  exploration is being done on a computer.
The mars rover has been programed to completion with several different endings. No
matter what happens to the rover, the program will run as planned.
