And now schools in the US are taking a hard-line against similar protests by children, are these protests covered by the Freedom Of Speech amendment ? OR are they illegal protests?
As far as I understand it, it's neither protected by the First Amendment or illegal.

It's not protected by the First Amendment as it only applies to the state, private organisations like private schools can have their own rules (like private Internet forums ;) ).

It's not illegal because although the anthem, like the flag, is one symbol of the US, and the law says that people should stand with their right hand over their heart (and a few more particulars for specific cases), it doesn't speak about any penalty for not following those procedures.

But this is only my interpretation of the US law, and I'm neither an American or a lawyer. :)

Not many who arent from here get these tenets, and as I said, I dont expect them too, but what I do expect is that due diligence should be employed....such as: spending some time here and experiencing American culture and customs might help you to understand where so many of us who have pride in what has been done here in less than 300 years, and how most nations, have had twice or even three times that long to achieve what we have here, yet have not.
You talk (write) as if I said any thing against your pride of being American. I did not, and never will, as that's a personal thing, I was only talking about not allowing the students to make peaceful protests.

Quote
And...for people who are given all of this, to crap on it, or perceive some slightly or non existent oppression or public viewpoint which is not in touch with reality deserves frowning upon, shaming, removal from appointed office, or downright punishment.
If they are not in touch with reality then they should be shown reality instead of being punished, as that only makes things worse, what starts as a simple protest may turn, when faced with what they consider unjust punishment, into something more violent.

To me, it's always better to allow people the freedom to express their opinions and ideas (unless they do that in a violent way or in a way that may lead to violence) than to repress people. Only yesterday I was talking to a man that was arrested and tortured almost 50 years ago because he participated in a demonstration against the way the police treated a student, maybe that's why I am more sensitive to any thing that looks like censorship than people that never really saw it and how it affects everyday life.

However you interpret what I said Armap, it makes no difference to me, we are different and thats what happens when differing views meet..no biggie.

My peace is spoken here, nothing more to debate, have a nice day!

I only find strange that I talk about one thing and you answer as if I had said something I did not about something else.

Well, its how my strange mind works I guess..perhaps the thing are more similar than you recognize, whatever they are...like Jim Morrison said, people are strange, and that surely doesnt exclude me..lol.;)
