And lo:

http://healthland.time.com/2013/06/10/soylent-is-the-food-of-the-future-really-a-nutrition-solution/

Quote
For about a month, Rhinehart researched exactly what the body needs to survive, down to the biochemical level. His mixture is composed of lots of vitamins and minerals including calcium, potassium, zinc, vitamins A, B, C, D, E and K. Check out the full ingredient mixture here. He started testing Soylent on himself, and found it gave him more energy, he lost weight and always felt full. On a trip home to Atlanta, Rhinehart says he came across an elderly neighbor, who had become gaunt with age as he grew too old to continue properly cooking. He realized Soylent might have benefits for other people too.

“It seemed ridiculous that things have gotten so efficient and streamlined and we have come so far, but we haven’t figure out how to get healthy food to everyone,” says Rhinehart. “In San Francisco, the food and health differences between the poorer and more affluent areas are so clear. It’s not that people don’t know what things are healthy and unhealthy. They don’t have the means.”

Although Soylent sounds like an elixir for good health, dietitians have serious concerns about the lack of evidence to support it.

Soylent Article

There is not enough product information for me too accept this, A few details like shelf life, exposure issues and storage issues would have been nice.

Dehydrated foods have always been thought to be the answer to Global Starvation, but one of the main reasons why they have not achieved this goals is because of the nutritional values drop over time during storage. Granted, they are more stable and easier to ship and store in mass quantities, but the dehydration of these noble chemicals causes them to change molecularity, allowing for some very nasty case scenario's too take place as far as food poisoning and other poised GI associated diseases.

I do hope one day this is the eventual fact, but with current knowledge of these dehydrated foods, nothing has yet been rendered as a 'Fail Safe' for such arduous storage times (Shelf Life) and temperature's (Global Conditions).

Ah, well yes I agree on Amy without a doubt.

Now, they should call it something else,
Soylent ....? I know they took the name from
Soylent green, which was a pre run of Soy
for protein...

Well, I'm for the many methods that are coming out for producing huge amounts of food, organically, in small space.

Thank You, 1WW.

Well, at least we get some product?Shelf life info with this particular item 'Z':

Quote
Product Features
Easy to prepare?just add hot water
Includes ten 1 cup servings
25 year shelf life
Made in the USA
Single Can
Easy to prepare, just add hot water

But I am betting that shelf life is 'Unopened' ! :P

Really good point though Zorgon, Dehydrated foods are much more 'User Friendly' for such places with malnutrition-ed folks, should be the answer too a lot of these scenario's, none the less.

Yep.  They think of genetic modification, dehydration, you name it.  Anything but getting rid of the real source of the problem; Capitalism. ;)

Not capitalism - the need for Human energy input in jobs no One wants to do - which creates different problems in each of the scarcity paradigm's solutions, capitalism, socialism, and communism.
