A Second Hubble Telescope?

A Second Hubble Telescope?

A long long time ago...

In a forum far away....

John Lear told people in our thread on Secrets Space Craft, Secret Astronauts and Secret Shuttle Missions.... that there was a SECOND HUBBLE space telescope up there...

Well naturally all the skeptics out there told us we were crazy. You get used to it :P

One of the things that came up in that thread was fresh fruit... interesting story on that one. Another point was the secret astronaut corp and Gary McKinnon's claim of 'non terrestrial NAVY officers.

Still another was MISTY... THAT one opened a whole lot of cans of worms.

We spoke of secret space planes... then one day NASA announces that an amateur has spotted one and they actually titled the article "Amateur Space Watcher finds Secret Space Plane"

I will cover all that in order in this thread, which will be locked until I am done... (John of course can add as we go if he wishes)

But today to start lets go back to the second Hubble Telescope.

It was also around this time in the thread that Russ Hamerly wrote to me form Boeing, offering to have someone take photos of any secret ships we might spot if we just pointed them out...

He sent us this photo to show us he could do as promised

Well here is an update on a link provided by Linda...

NRO Gives NASA Two Hubble-Class Telescopes (Shh!)

By Keith Cowing on June 4, 2012 12:26 PM

Keith Cowing, if anyone read the McMoon thread on the Missing Lunar Orbiter tapes, is directly involved with the LOIRP team that was the focus of that story. We shared several interesting emails during that event as it unfolded and I got a lot of interesting contacts from that affair.

Here is the story as leaked to the Washington Post and New York Times and after that I will add Kieth's very interesting comments. This article comes from NASA watch, a part of SpaceRef.com whom Kieth is associated with

NASA gets two military spy telescopes for astronomy
Washington Post

Quote
"The U.S. government's secret space program has decided to give NASA two telescopes as big as, and even more powerful than, the Hubble Space Telescope. Designed for surveillance, the telescopes from the National Reconnaissance Office were no longer needed for spy missions and can now be used to study the heavens. They have 2.4-meter (7.9 feet) mirrors, just like the Hubble. They also have an additional feature that the civilian space telescopes lack: A maneuverable secondary mirror that makes it possible to obtain more focused images. These telescopes will have 100 times the field of view of the Hubble, according to David Spergel, a Princeton astrophysicist and co-chair of the National Academies advisory panel on astronomy and astrophysics."

The phone call came like a bolt out of the blue, so to speak, in January 2011. On the other end of the line was someone from the National Reconnaissance Office, which operates the nation’s fleet of spy satellites. They had some spare, unused “hardware” to get rid of. Was NASA interested?

Quote
"Working in secret with a small band of astronomers for the last couple of months, Dr. Grunsfeld, famous as the Hubble telescope's on-orbit repairman, has now come up with a plan, which is being presented to the public on Monday."

Keith's note: Even though NASA officials have been made available to the Washington Post and New York Times, a NASA PAO representative tells me that NASA will not be issuing any official statement on this topic. This is totally bizzare. NASA suddenly gets handed the equivalent of two Hubble Space Telescopes (apparently) for free, NASA folks talk to two newspapers, and then that's it? Not even a "thank you" note? I am told that there may be a media telecon today. Stay tuned for an update.

Quote
Keith's update: There is a media telecon at 2:00 pm today. I will live blog it at @NASAWatch. Also NASA PAO apparently contacted a few reporters about something in advance - but did not tell not others - and now they are backpeddling saying that they did contact me when in fact they did not. It is time for someone to admit that they made a mistake. Also, there will be no press release or statement from NASA because NRO told NASA not to issue one. But NASA did make NASA employees and advisors available to the New York Times and Washington Post. This story gets weirder with every passing hour.

This is not a NASA Website. You might learn something. It's YOUR space agency. Get involved. Take it back. Make it work - for YOU.

So there you have it  not ONE extra Hubble that didn't exist but TWO and they are bigger and better. And the NRO calls it "Spare Hardware"

So John... looks like you were RIGH once again. :D

Woulld LOVE to pop in to ATS and add this to that Secret Spacecraft thread and say;

"WE TOLD YOU SO"

How about it ArMaP? Can ya help us out here?  :P
