Any suggestions for herbal remedies for Type 2 Diabetes ??
« on: October 31, 2012, 11:32:23 am »
Hi, Among other things I have type 2 diabetes, as well as other family members.
My doctor prescribed Metformin HCL.
I am also taking Curcumin C3 complex..
Any other suggestions (other than dietary reform, which I hate, but am doing) ??
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy
I am not a DR.
With that out of the way you might look into green bean tea or oragon(miss spelled) grape root. Those two kept me off meds for about 4 years.
Just last week a friend said that his mom started on green coffee bean extract and lowered her average from 180 to 122. I did look into it and I plan on trying it. I hope to get some next trip to town. I hope this Saturday.
Again I am not a DR this just what I have tried so far.

hi Andy
to be healthy is work.. and i think you are on a good track there
i am no doctor so take that into consideration when you read my list

first off i would find a naturopathic doctor and have myself tested
(blood and saliva) to see if there were imbalances other than from the pancreas
and/or  food allergies..
.it's amazing how food allergies can be a source of such havoc in the body
food really is medicine and if it is tainted with junk..guess what
we need to know what ingredients of stuff  is going down the hatch

accupuncture is an aid that might help reduce the amount of meds

i don't know you so i don't know where you stand on meditation/ affirmations and such
but both can be useful tools

after saying that i would make a very loose suggestion to check out
Louise Hay's book entitled you can heal your life
not to be used directly for anything other than a way of checking in with yourself
as to the why of some things and how some things manifest in the body
you may be well past this stage.
i only recommend it as a primer if someone has never considered the body mind connection

my sister was a juvenile diabetic (no history..shock can be an onset of much)
and before she rolled a jeep and was killed at 29
she had completely gotten off all meds and was doing well
how long or if it would have lasted had she lived..we'll never know

blessings to you and much luck on your road to discovery

Thanks ...Sky Otter 'll start looking for that book, I'll have to see if there are any naturopath MD's around here that my health plan covers.....I have changed my diet drastically at this point and I thought there might be a natural herb that my google searches didn't turn up. Or some sort of homeopathic remedy. All the help was appreciated.

I believe that the majority of contemporary disease is caused by the fact that when industrial processes produce toxic wastes, rather than disposing of said wastes, corporations consider it cheaper to put them into the food supply.  Flouride is the example most of us know about, but genetically modified soy is actually another.

Soy cultivation for the most part is not justified by demand; demand is actually a byproduct of people wanting to grow soy and make money for it.  As an experiment, try and find some form of processed food which doesn't contain soy flour or lecithin.  It's in everything now.

On topic, turmeric/cucumin is good for pretty much anything.  I've read that cinnamon can be good for diabetes as well, but can also harm the kidney, so be careful of that.

As far as getting off meds is concerned; sure, theoretically speaking it's easy.  All you need to understand is basic systems theory; that you as a human being, are physiologically designed to exist within a certain environmental system, and the other elements of said system which are meant to serve as both food and medicine, are animals which have fed on plants that have not been altered by industrial processes, and plants which have not been altered by industrial processes, respectively.

In other words, if you only eat grass fed meat, and non-industrially processed fruit and vegetables, you'll stay well.

ah not exactly but that would help

we are a chemical stew locked into a bi-pedal meat suit capable of producing
small and large  - simple and complex additional chemicals in that meat suit with just a thought
or an emotion
its a delicate operation to maintain optimum calibration
and when one thing gets out of balance it has a domino effect on everything else
so food is only one factor to consider
and
guess what..that just isn't my opinion either

That depends on what your health problems are, I have yet to find something (besides meds) that makes my asthma go away. My food was not a problem when I was five years old (in 1968), the first time I was taken to the hospital to get oxygen.

Andolin,

Perhaps you have looked here aready but if not, "Mountain Rose Herb Farm" is where I start when I need to find an alternative remedy for an illness or ailment:

http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/

Put Insulin in the search box and you will get several responses.   I like the fact that they offer research findings as well as folklore and that their database is easily searchable, but I have no financial or personal relation with them.

good luck,

rose

My mother was previously an asthmatic, who also had allergic rhinitis and an allergy to alcohol.  A late paternal uncle of mine was a homeopath and acupuncturist, and he was able to cure her allergy to alcohol; although this turned out to not be such a blessing, because for several years she then became an alcoholic!

I don't know how open minded you are towards acupuncture, but if you are, I'd suggest giving it a try.

My wife is Type II - her doctor stayed after her over a long period to take the meds. She refused, saying she could do it with changed eating plan, as she did not want to take the meds.

Well the A1C reached the point (8+ I think) that it was either take the meds or must eat differently. Well, she started on the typical "low-carb" eating plan, along with watching calories, and her blood sugars are now in the lower-normal ranges.

It does take planning, and it does require a strict regimen, to get the desired results.  The problem is, for many of us, our eating is similar to an addiction, relative to our tastes and what we like/want to eat - ie, relative to what we have eaten all of our lives. Yes, in dealing with type II, the key is learning to eat differently, and sticking with it.

If one takes the time to learn about the long-term physical effects of long term high blood sugars, there is plenty of incentive to make the necessary changes.

Basically, the carbs have to go!! Thus, that still leaves a lot of good veggies, most of the meats, seafood/fish, and some fruits.

Dining out is still ok, but, it is a learning process for dealing with lower carbs in the restaurants.

Good luck in finding the right path for yourself!

P.S. - not a doctor either!! :))

tea made from blueberry leaves and unadulterated juice from blueberries is said to assist the pancreas and since DH started on it [ he's type 1  ] it's lowered the amount of insulin he needs. If that helps....

I was treated some years ago by a homeopath (for a blocked salivary gland, it was treated with clay and some special medicine made in Paris) and he didn't say a thing about my asthma. At the time my brother was making some allergy tests for his asthma (almost nonexistent today) the doctor told me that there was no need for me to make the tests because my asthma is not related to allergies.

Lots of help..Thanks again. The Blueberry angle is new, I'll look into that Caver, and loosing carbs ain't easy for a meat/potatoes/pasta eater like myself, but Rdunk, I'm trying. Rose I'm heading over to that website now. I hate that stupid daily glucose testing. Dr. appointment is later this week, and I've been on the modified diet and meds for 60 days now......We'll see how he feels about the Homeopath angle, Petrus4. Thanks again all.
