White House Petition Urges U.S. To Build Real-Life Starship 'Enterprise'

An engineer is petitioning the White House to study the possibility of building a real-life starship Enterprise like the fictional vessel in television's "Star Trek."

The proposal was submitted through the White House's official "We the People" channel, which promises an administration response to any petition that gathers at least 25,000 signatures. Just last month, a petition to build a Death Star like the spherical spaceship in the movie "Star Wars" garnered that critical mass, and is currently awaiting its official response.

The Enterprise proposal comes from an engineer who goes by the name BTE Dan, who detailed plans for constructing a life-size, flyable starship Enterprise on his website last year.

why arent we hearing answers to these petitions?
ive never heard of these petitions.
death star,really?
like nukes arent enough, now we need a planet destroyer.

i say go far it.

enterprise? thats like a have to ,built into the constitution kinda thing.
id pay an extra one percent tax for a real enterprise, with public reports monthly of their logs and discoveries.
ive never been much for rules.
being me has its priviledges.

That was kind of disappointing. Only using old technology...
There is a way to produce an artificial gravity field, and a method to produce a "field drive" for propulsion. They are the same device in different configurations.
Here is a link to a paper that discusses this device.
http://www.hpcc-space.de/publications/documents/LauncherSymPaper2007-0-42.pdf
With the amount of power than can be generated using existing technology such a field drive could be constructed that would make all of the planets within a practical flying distance. With the further application of Novel Physics, this drive could go FTL.
A starship that works like the Enterprise could be built with virtually off-the-shelf components, except for the FTL. And that is with 2013 public technology.

Considering the Navy has a space fleet somewhere behind the moon.. and considering the navy tradition of naming ships, the Enterprise, the Constellation and Prometheus are likely already out there
