The Amazing Wonders of Yellowstone!
« on: August 22, 2013, 09:11:09 pm »

The neat thing about investigating Yellowstone is - everywhere you go you are always presented with new surprises you did not expect.

Let's start by following the water coming into the park via the waterfalls -

(click on images to see full size)

And then follow the rivers -

...to the lakes -

And here is an idea I bet has been done for ages -

Which brings us to camping in Yellowstone, which is gorgeous, but certain times of the year can get a bit crowded -

But hey they are always gracious and make room for you  ;)  ;D

As you hike or drive around, the majesty of the place begins to dawn on you -

And silent Geysers will suddenly come to life as you are admiring some scenery -

And quite often out of nowhere gemstone pools will appear, and if you take the time to absorb the view you are often rewarded by bubbles beginning to appear, and shortly after a hot water spray of eruption in to the air.

Hiking

For those willing to go off the beaten path and hike a few miles, there are further hidden treasures to be seen that most people miss out on -

I hope you enjoyed this short tour and will consider visiting and camping some day... you DESERVE it!   8)

Also - being far from any city lights, the stargazing there is pretty spectacular! -

Note how the sound of Geysers is similar to the sound of the ocean at the beach.  8)

Beautiful pictures.  Thank you for sharing them.  We're going to stay at Grey Wolf Inn and Suites in West Yellowstone.   Not really up to camping with  grandkids ages 12,10, 9 and 5.  I like my comforts.  My hope is to not get lost at night this time.  When my daughter and I went there in 91, I was trying to get back to the west entrance after dark.  My sense of direction would have made Wrongway Feldman proud.  We ended up at the north entrance.  I'm the kind of person who can get lost trying to get out of a parking lot.  That happened a couple of years ago.  And that was without the Ambient hallucinations.   Those made it difficult to find the bathroom in the middle of the night.  It's across the hall from the bedroom.   I'll have to take pictures and see if I can post them here when we get to Yellowstone.   And I really hope the gift shop still has the Idaho opals.  Those are gorgeous.

Ahh. Sounds spectacular and a comfy way to go!  8)

I look forward to your pictures.

My last visit was all camping for a week, with a college friend from Hong Kong who did all the cooking, so everything about the trip was just glorious!  8)

But I know what you mean, even in our college days we were pretty well knackered by the end of the week from all the hiking.

The hikes to the hidden places are also well worth it, not just the places visible from the roadside, as evidenced from the photos above.  ;D

My daughter and I visited in 91, which was just three years after the big fire.  I'm anxious to see the recovery since then.  I think our hiking is likely to be on the tame side.  We had enough injuries last year with my shoulder and my granddaughter's collar bone.  I prefer to have a vacation that doesn't involve my being on Percocet.

Yellowstone was awesome!  It was great seeing my grandkids experience nature in that setting.  We hiked to Fairy Falls on the second day.  A bit challenging at times, but worth it.  I will try to get some pictures up soon.

We had the first ever experience of hearing wolves howling in the wild up at Norris Geyser Basin, and got a close up of a bison.  It really was quite a trip.
