Magnesium sulfate is an inorganic salt (chemical compound) containing magnesium, sulfur and oxygen, with the formula MgSO4. It is often encountered as the heptahydrate sulfate mineral epsomite (MgSO4·7H2O), commonly called Epsom salt. The monohydrate, MgSO4·H2O is found as the mineral kieserite. The overall global annual usage in the mid-1970s of the monohydrate was 2.3 million tons, of which the majority was used in agriculture.

Potash comes in a salt form also.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potash
Potash /ˈpɒtæʃ/ is any of various mined and manufactured salts that contain potassium in water-soluble form.[1] The name derives from pot ash, which refers to plant ashes soaked in water in a pot, the primary means of manufacturing the product before the industrial era. The word potassium is derived from potash.[2]

in east texas, its all clay, the ol timers would say,add some lime!
it sucked!
then i bought a bail of peat and my dirt turned to gold.basically.
treat your soil like a loaf of bread, whatever you would add to a bread mixture with peat as the soil conditioner.
tilled,sugar,yeast,rock phosphate.water
basically soda pops like coke and dr.pepper.
the best sugar is grandmas molasses, unsulphured.
if you add sulphur though, for fragrant plants it adds more funk or smell.
too much can make plants burn hot and harsh.
tomatoes get tastier though.
in desert.plow in cactus.they give you the amendment and act as a type of water sponge gel.
want a different taste or smell.add that fruit and seeds to soil.be wary.too many sprouted seeds dying in your pot will create a new species ,not just hybrid, but species!
ive never been much for rules.
being me has its priviledges.

That truly is something I've never heard of before Robo...   8)

As a wanna be Farmer who theoretically will need to build soil I've never even considered using Cactus for that purpose or read about it. In the old mining time's here in Melbourne Oz, we have quite a few remnants of prickly pear cactus growing in strange place's.

Even in my own back yard I have about 12 pot's of Aloe Vera which tomorrow could become 24 pot's, next summer 48... They annoy me as my mother in law keep's propagating them when she is in OZ...Now you have given me something to think about and search out mate!
