A Name to Look for if You love Real Thai Food....

David Thompson

Who is David Thompson?  the Journey I will set us upon for the Thai Food Lovers ;)

Quote
David Thompson is an Australian chef, restaurateur and cookery writer, known for his skill and expertise in Thai cuisine.

He made his name at Darley Street Thai in Sydney, opened on his return from several years living and working in Bangkok. He used to run Sailors Thai (opened 1995) in that city, and the Michelin starred[1] Nahm (opened 2001) in London's Halkin Hotel – the first Thai restaurant to gain this award.

Thompson has also written a book. Arharn Thai or Thai Food is published by Pavilion Books and is a comprehensive account of Thai Cuisine, covering its history and role in society, as well as numerous recipes and menus.

His latest book is called "Thai Street Food" and it is a collection of his favourite 100 recipes of the street. A more comprehensive collection is to follow.

David opened a branch of Nahm in Bangkok in 2010.

So from that wikipedia article we can garner that the company that makes rubber hoops for wheels awarded him One Star for his venture into London and that he also is a Master when it comes to Thai Food.  For the people who don't follow food the One Star Refrer's to a Michelin Award which most chefs would love to have to their name.  On another note his London Eatery has since lost that Star after many years.  Meh  ;)

Here are some Video's Of David Talking about Thai Food where you can see a progession of his thought's... (Remember this Chef bought Thai to the Home Chef and Hopefully Other Thai"

David Thompson is an Aussie that has created a little controversy along the way. He received a Michelin star for his Thai Restaurant in London and now has his second nahm in the capital of Thailand at the Metropolitan, Bangkok. Here he talks about 'authenticity' among other things.

Seems he's been Busy with his Thai Adventure ;)

Thai Street Food with David Thompson

Quote
Join David Thompson - guru, chef and Thai food adventurer - on his quest to unlock the secrets of Thai street food. From the markets at dawn to a very late supper in Chinatown, he talks and cooks with vendors, hawkers and market stall holders to discover the popular dishes, the classics and the less well-known delicacies.

Thai Street Food offers a glimpse into the vibrant world of Thailand’s streets and markets, following the sweep of time as day slips into night, and the people and food change accordingly. Food is central to many, if not all, aspects of Thai culture and it’s David’s passion to not only demonstrate how to prepare it, but to put the food in context and take the viewer on an unforgettable 13 part journey through a day in the life of Thai Street Food.

I've tried a few of his recipes and they do hit the spot as being the real deal rather than what most eaterys serve up through commericail pastes that come in Jar :P

Tom Yum that is so good!

If you don;t quite know how to cook this dish don't be dissapointed first time round as there a lot of recipes out there and naturally it does take some tweaking.  I can wholly say if you like Thai or more soecifically in the case of this Recipe that you should feel the flavours become more intense whilst eating and drinking the bowl of soup.  To be honest thats a first for me where the bowl was so good you stay at to notice the flavours change  :o
