Copyright Request LazyGRanch
« on: November 08, 2011, 01:57:55 pm »
Received this email today from Gary at the LazyGRanch

From: g@lazygranch.com
Subject: Copyright Violations
Date: Nov 8, 2011 12:55am

Please remove all images stolen from www.lazygranch.com from www.thelivingmoon.com. Further, please instruct your forum users to stop uploading my images to image hosting companies. Go ahead and hotlink me. Better than having my stuff plastered all over the net, including that imagesbox.com website that is full of porn.

Gary Sellani

I had a few images on one of the sites webpages on Area 51 but they were linked and credited to LazyGRanch. I have removed them to comply with this request. But most of the material from LazyGRanch was simply linked directly to his site, so I am not sure why there is a problem...

Linked as below

I am not aware of anyone doing this, but if anyone on this forum is using any material from LazyGRanch please honor Gary's request and hot link it rather than saving it to an image host. Most people prefer that you do save it rather than hot link it to save the bandwidth, but Gary wishes it hot linked

Thanks for your understanding

Always willing to honor requests to keep Uncle Sam off my back.

But the whole concept of copyright is just ludicrous to me.

That's about the most odd request I have seen in regards to "Ownership" in regards to topics of this nature.   AS mentioned people usually don't give a rat's, and the notio0n of bandwith is always a known.

What I find even more odd is Gary's mention of the 'forum' here.  Heh ?

Axe to Grind ?  Put it down ya fool  ::)

The great library of Alexandria had no copyright... when people started to learn to read, authors wrote to share their knowledge with anyone who wanted it...

So I looked up when we were stuck with this...

Quote
Main article: History of copyright law

Copyright was invented after the advent of the printing press and with wider public literacy. As a legal concept, its origins in Britain were from a reaction to printers' monopolies at the beginning of the eighteenth century. Charles II of England was concerned by the unregulated copying of books and passed the Licensing Act of 1662 by Act of Parliament,[1] which established a register of licensed books and required a copy to be deposited with the Stationers Company, essentially continuing the licensing of material that had long been in effect.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright#History

So... we can thank the Brits... its all about MONEY

But in this case... both Dreamland and now Gary are jealously claiming copyright, yet cover the internet with the pictures, taken of a base that is paid for by tax payers. They both claim to want to show what is going on our there and neither of them would be 'in business' if BoB Lazar hadn't started the whole deal :P

Its silly in my opinion, but I had to post the request. Unfortunately there are many lawyers lurking about that make a living tracking down stuff like that. I did invite Gary to come on here and address this. So far no reply

Quote
The British Statute of Anne (1709) further alluded to individual rights or the artist, beginning: "Whereas Printers, Booksellers, and other Persons, have of late frequently taken the Liberty of Printing... Books, and other Writings, without the Consent of the Authors... to their very great Detriment, and too often to the Ruin of them and their Families:..."[2] A right to benefit financially from the work is articulated, and court rulings and legislation have recognized a right to control the work, such as ensuring that the integrity of it is preserved. An irrevocable right to be recognized as the work's creator appears in some countries' copyright laws.

Just rechecked my emails...

From: g@lazygranch.com
Subject: Copyright Violations
Date: 11/8/2011 1:24 PM

These days I have no trouble with hotlinks since I have no bandwidth charges, but I found a pile of my images on imagesbox.com that linked back to thelivingmoon.com. I got imagesbox.com to delete anything they had from my website. I think your forum users are doing the image transfer.

Forums tend to be the problem. Dreamlandresort.com has links to my website blocked, so those forum users are constantly uploading my images to photo sharing websites. This makes a lot of work for me. Anyway, a notice on whatever forums you run about not uploading my images would be helpful.

Hmmm so Dreamland is blocking LazyGRanch  :o

Well we have google Earth images and John has some recent videos taken on a flyby... so we really don't need them. Besides the Janet terminal is only 5 minutes from my house and they fly over me daily I can set my watch by them :P

There is one flight daily that comes from the direction of Los Alamos. It is the only jet that approaches from that direction, outside the normal flight pattern for McCarren.

And we can always drive out and get our own pictures :P

My reply....

Hmm well same with us as we have unlimited bandwidth with my hosting account...

So your saying it IS okay for us to use the images hotlinked? That is what we had (save a couple I had missed from an older page) and full and due credit was attached to every image... I have deleted them and only have your links in the menu.

That is very odd... We just opened our forum a few weeks ago and have very few members. I looked through all the posts and no one has posted anything yet from your site.

Well this is the internet. People on forums want to talk about and share what they find interesting. Isn't the purpose of posting images and info on the internet to share that knowledge with others? Good forums like ATS (and ours) insist that their members give credit and link to the original, but still allow the posting under 'fair use' for educational purposes.

Frankly I do not understand Dreamland's stance... after all if John Lear's friend Bob Lazar hadn't put Area 51 on the map no one would even be looking.  We find it odd that anyone would want to 'expose' what is going on out there and yet be so 'tight' about sharing. We have looked at your posts for over 6 years and never had a problem till now.

It is impossible to control what individuals do. Exopolitics and two other forums copied my Naval Space Command threads from ATS in their entirety without giving credit. Then someone new posted the material at ATS and asked "So what do you think?"  LOL Had to inform the person that the original source WAS ATS. But I posted that info to get the truth out there and most of the data is in public domain anyway. I can understand if one was selling the material that it might be an issue, but I thought the intent was to share and make people aware.

>  Anyway, a notice on whatever forums you run about not uploading my images would be helpful.

Did that already, and I only run one forum... Feel free to stop by and share your opinion directly.
