I haven't read the original job overview and only skimmed what was posted here, but I think I remember that Planetary Protection works more in the opposite way, trying not contaminate other planets.

WHERE does it say ANYTHING About ALIENS in the job description?

This is about stopping the COSMIC LITTERBUGS from polluting other planets (of which NASA is the biggest offender :P )

Remember when NASA blew up that comet?  Comet Tempel 1?  ""We hit it just exactly where we wanted to," said an ecstatic Dr Don Yeomans, a Nasa mission scientist... "The impact was bigger than I expected, and bigger than most of us expected. We've got all the data we could possibly ask for." ...

Agency staff working on the $333 Million mission cheered, clapped and hugged when the first pictures of the impact came through to the control room at Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California...

Two stages: Preliminary data indicated two successive flashes.

"What you see is something really surprising. First, there is a small flash, then there's a delay, then there's a big flash and the whole thing breaks loose. We may have been able to detect some structural response to the impact," mission co-investigator Pete Shultz said.... "

Boy Applies For NASA’s Planetary Protector Job In The Most Adorable Way
“I am young, so I can learn to think like an Alien.”
By Lee Moran

This fourth grader’s job application letter to NASA is something to phone home about.

Nine-year-old Jack Davis laid out exactly why he believes he’s perfect to take on the space agency’s recently advertised role of Planetary Protection Officer in an adorable handwritten letter.

And with his cute claim that he’s still young enough to “learn to think like an Alien,” his sweet appeal is now going viral:

My friend's son wrote a letter to NASA

“One of the reasons is my sister says I am an alien also,” he wrote, explaining his qualifications for the six-digit-salaried position which entails stopping alien life forces (of all sizes) from spreading during space travel.

The youngster boasted about seeing “almost all the space and alien movies I can see” and signed off as “Jack Davis, Guardian of the Galaxy, Fourth Grade.”

Reddit user millamber, a friend of one of his parents, shared a snap of the note to the site on Thursday. It’s not clear where Davis is located, and some social media users have questioned if the note is even genuine. HuffPost has reached out for further comment.

The photograph is, however, proving exceptionally popular online ― with many Redditors suggesting that Davis may indeed be the best person for the job:

This is a child who still dreams. May he hang on to that innocence as long as he can.

I now remember what I meant to say yesterday and that is that it's a bit late for preventative measures. We have, almost assuredly, polluted the cosmos on a biological level.

Our machines in space have been bathed in radiation, yet we find earth-based organisms clinging to things like the ISS.

“We are always looking for bright future scientists and engineers to help us, so I hope you will study hard and do well in school,” Green wrote in a letter posted online Friday. “We hope to see you here at NASA one of these days!”

The six-figure position at NASA is actually about protecting other planets from us humans and all our foreign germs ― it involves collecting specimens from across the solar system and bringing them back to Earth.

We hope that there will be some awesome position for Jack at NASA when he grows up. Maybe even one that includes an alien battle or two.
