A Kiwi's hoverbike invention is starting to take off in the United Kingdom.

Chris Malloy, originally from New Zealand, first invented his hoverbike out of a garage when he was living
in Sydney.

But that was a few years ago now and Malloy has since moved to the UK and started the company
Malloy Aeronautics with a team of engineers.

What they have created looks like something from a Star Wars movie.

Isn't this a scam? I have seen these same pictures over the past 2-3 years.  Just asking btw.

I saw this on the hoverbike a while back; the vid of the static tests were impressive, just been waiting on more info to become available...

I want to try one out  8)

if it is a scam, oh well...but i do like the concept...

There was an announcement on NZTV news last night which bought my attention to this.

So we will find out, if it is genuine or a scam I guess.

I would dread to think TVNZ is being scammed ....   :(  but these days who knows ?

Makes you wonder if it is a scam after all ?

Going by the date given above ....

Interesting Idea though and sure it could be done.

Well, I have seen this guy pop up on several forums over the past 3 years and I always get to see the same pictures and video, and even the video is "iffy". I tried googling but nothing new really. Either he got funded by DARPA or it just didn't work/exist.

The concept itself seems flawed to begin with. Neither of the bladed engines can change angle, so it makes me wonder how he could steer.

I don't know if it exists, but you can give them money.

Going from the site, the first hoverbike isn't finished yet, but they are already working on a second "hoverbike". Yeah I think i'l pass.
Also, going from the pictures I can hardly believe that little engine can lift all that weight?

Stupid things like why would they use wood as propeller material? Those fans most weigh a ton.

Yup Scam.

It looks cool but it is far too dangerous or mass ownership.  Imagine New York or London with thousands of those lol.

I want one like in the Highlander movie.  If you didn't ever think it would be cool to go around on a hoverboard with a sword as an immortal might just be exciting then you missed out.

They produce too much noise. Imagine a lawn mower multiplied x 10 taking off from your neighbor's house..LOL

LOL. ArMap I do love your Humour very, similar to my own thoughts ...

To me it appears to be a scam ....  :)  (at Present)

It would be nice if it wasn't a scam, so I am not holding my breath just yet, on this One.

Yup Scam.

I do know a little about this Tech... here is a photo of me (in the rear seat) of this Gyro at a private air show
a few years back.

It is a Turbo version using a similar model to this Rotax engine.

Capable of 125 mph.

And yes that is myself sitting in the gyro, (see photo below) flying this home made 'unit' in a test rig.

The chassis and engine was from an old Quad bike with a few radical additions.

The Rig was also used for entertainment by family and friends as well.

"Wood" was used in the past for the 'Rotor blades'.

More recently Carbon Fibre.

In the case of the 'Hoverbike' I would need to see a photo of the Rotor Gimbal to verify
if 'Pitch Control, is being used !

The quad bike engine used in the test rig shown in the photo above, would certainly be sufficient power
to use in such a Hover Bike !

It would NOT be difficult to manufacture one of these 'Hoverbikes' and not financially out of reach !

And so this is why it may be a 'scam' as it is NOT technically difficult to build, and one
has still NOT been demonstrated in public at an air show of any kind reported.

Still I would love to see someone manufacture one just for fun.

These are a lot of fun ...

as are these also.

I have a Carson EC-135 Feuerwehr I play with even though I'm an Oldie.
2nd or 20th Childhood or something I guess.   :)

Interesting seeker maybe we should look at it closer to find the truth ?

Even though I'm and old fart... I wold still ride one if I got the chance.   ;D

I see, going from your expertise, how would he be steering? I don't see anything that could adjust the angle of his rotors?

Only a couple of ways...

1.    Balance (Not really Practical)
and
2.    Pitch Control  I have NOT seen anything yet, suggesting the existence of this.

The Quad Rotor version, could use 'Speed Control' independently on each rotor ...  using PIV gearboxes.

The design of such a 'Hoverbike' would NOT be difficult IMHO.

Perhaps with the introduction of the latest 'battery technology' an electric version could be very Quiet ?

I am approaching the old fart stage myself, Matrix, but I would have to give it a try  8)

might have to have a go at buikding one...

I saw this doing the rounds on Bicycle websites a long time ago.  I never saw much controversy myself apart from the fact that it sorta sucked compared to the joy of self power... personal thing I guess.   ;D

If you put some gyro's with the hover fan function than I'm sure it achievable.  And people forget NZ do punch above their wieght when it come's to innovation ( O Tony Abbot must hate an ozzie saying that LOL )
