Ghost in the shell ,movie review
« on: November 03, 2017, 02:08:14 pm »
I just bought the dvd ghost in the shell.short version.worth the twelve bucks i paid.A+.
The scifi special effects and storyline was really good.its chinese made, that creeped me out.chinese location too.
That was hard to swallow.the action was superb.lots of futurist cyborg theory.touching on ai.voice to skull tech throughout movie.
From a police state point of view.i didnt like hearing about prime minister or major.which gave it a kind of totalitarism communist state feel but that was just background noise in the movie.
Its language was slow, like maybe to more easily sincronise with chinese language audience i suspect.
Thing is.it ended very well.nice feel good to ending which is very rare these days.even an almost tear oozed from my eye at end.i said almost!
I can see this movie easily having a part two sequal.
The lighting and futurist theories were very well thought out.theres even a twist that comes out later that gives it a very small hint of romance.
I think the producers tried to milk out scarlette johansons body shape by having her in a flesh suit for some scenes which to an older guy like me was a yawn.
She looked way better in some really nice outfits they had her wear.
I felt weird about movie going in but by the ending,i was really into movie.
If china keeps this up.they will have a really decent chinawood.
I suggest its worth adding to your movie collection.

Chinese made? Isn't it a Dreamworks movie?

A few scenes were filmed in Hong Kong, that's why there were two Chinese companies involved, but most of the movie was filmed in New Zealand. There are several Japanese actors, but, as far as I could see on IMDB, only one or two Chinese.

Well then i made a mistake armap.its not chinese, but the credits on movie were alot of oriental names and oriental named businesses at intro credits.
Its not chinese folks, its oriental.and the nz pics look like chinese cities.from what ive been trained to.believe are chinese cities.even the roadways have chinese style writing painted in the asphalt.
But as its a futuristic movie, china may not even exist in that time period either.

I haven't seen the movie, but in the original story, a Japanese manga, the story happened in a Japanese city and almost all characters were Japanese, so it's natural that there are so many Japanese names in the credits. In fact, many people didn't like that the main character was not a Japanese, like in the original story.

PS: for people not familiar with Japanese writing, they use three different types of characters, kanji (Chinese characters), katakana and hiragana. Kanji characters have specific meanings, while katakana and hiragana are sound-based characters, with characters for the vowels and consonant+vowel groups. As an example, "cat" (in Japanese, "neko") can be written with just one kanji character or two katakana or hiragana characters, one for the sound "ne" and the other for the sound "ko". The original manga was written in kanji, so I think it's possible that the movie producers decided to use more kanji characters to make it look closer to the original manga, but, anyway, many Japanese characters are the same as Chinese characters.

The tv previews looked great as far as special effects went. Bought the dvd when it first came out. Watched it. Hated it. Haven't watched it again. A waste of money...Used actor from Johnny Mnemonic "Takeshi Kitano" and Written by Shirow Masamune   ...   (based on the comic "The Ghost in the Shell" )

Icky squicky transhumanism.  Not really my cup of tea.  Saw the cartoon in probably 2001-ish, though; and I'd already seen The Matrix by then, so didn't really understand the point of it.  Then again, I've truthfully always tended to view transhumanism in general (and especially the pornographic variety, which from memory to a certain extent this is) as a byproduct of people who weren't loved enough by their parents.
