Not too many basements in area that are only 5 feet above sea level

 :o :o

Be safe Hoss   get out of dodge before the traffic  Just in case....
Yes thats right Ron, basements are a rare thing in coastal areas and not a common thing here in Florida.

Because you don't have to dig down below frost level for the foundation, most houses are on a slab.

The latest model runs this morning have the storm staying out of the gulf due to the cold front Sarge mentioned  so I should be ok . I just hope the winds don't knock out the power. It gets really boring and uncomfortable(hot) with no electricity here in SW Florida.
When you die you will find out that John Lear was right..........Hoss

Thank you, Zorgon.  May I request your interpretation, then, as to the actual cause of the increased frequency of these hurricanes?
Cyclones (the "official" name of the atmospheric event that gets different names according to the region it appears on, hurricane in the Americas, typhoon in Asia) are a result of the water of the ocean getting hotter. Hotter water creates lower atmospheric pressures above it and those lower pressures create winds. The lower pressures and hotter water also help evaporation and the creation of clouds. The evaporation and rain then change the temperature of the air and intensify the difference in air pressure, creating even stronger winds.

So, more hurricanes are a consequence of hotter water in the Atlantic ocean close to the tropic. Apparently, this time the temperature is not getting lower and the hurricanes keep on appearing in succession.

Well just to be on the safe side, this morning I started my generator up and checked all the outlets....runs fine...(although I should look for an electric start genny as I'm too old to be pulling on a start cord (plus the wife would have a hard time if something happened to me).
I've got 25 gallons of gas, (five gallon tank on the genny)
I've got 25 gallons of clean drinking water, plus two bathtubs for flushing.

So I'm good to go.... ;)

While we can do minor weather manipulation like cloud seeding etc... we DO NOT yet have the ability to direct or create hurricanes.

I know that the conspiracy world WANTS to believe that and when you tell them otherwise they call you a shill... but it's the truth  We are not at that level yet and a long way away from it

Ventusky has updated the path  It looks like at this time the prediction has it going up the coast just out to sea so Florida will miss the brunt of it IF that pattern holds

https://www.ventusky.com/?p=24.7;-70.1;3&l=wind&t=20170911/06

At that direction it will slam into Southern Carolina
According to that simulation, most of Florida won't get slammed head on, but it does indicate landfall somewhere around Savannah Monday Afternoon; but it also shows that it then heads northwest on an inland track towards Chicago
That figures since I have to go to Masillon Ohio on Thursday  ::)

Seeker has been sitting one foot from his 72" flat screen since Monday. His eyes are just spirals now and there's a puddle of drool on the bearskin rug under his moccasins.

Waiting on the next NHC update at 11:00 pm; of note is tropical storm Jose; it is following along behind Irma, yet has just been forecast to become a hurricane later tonight;

this may be a succession of storms strolling across the Atlantic...

it has happened before

I have lived through 2 major hurricanes.

To use an old phrase - they truly put the fear of God in ya!

Ok friends, keep your heads down and hold on tight, this is a true monster on the loose.

May The Fates be with you all as well!
