Another day at the Mothership:

Water moccasin

Cottonmouth

Copperhead

Brown water snake

Corn snake

Dead snake that got in under the trip wire... :o

We sincerely hope it’s not a corn snake. We have never seen one in these parts previously.

This is the intruder that was extremely agressive - coiled and struck at Juan’s pitchfork while clearing brush in the woodlot.

Identification in question at this time - anyone have knowledge of this?

We truly hope this was not a mistake, but it did not fit the profile of a friendly.

Besides that, it provided a real-world food acquisition technique review.   :P

Death by air weapon: 2 head shots = 2 kills @ 25 feet   :P

The OPS DRT silent “Perimeter Protector”...   :P

The scope is a Bushnell 4x32 Rimfire mounted on this weapon:

Thanks for the reply.

IMHO, the identity is still in question.    :(

I am almost 100% positive it is a Corn Snake TFW, I have friends that raised them for pets.

And they are found in your neck of the woods as natural habitat areas for the USA.

Quote
Natural habitat

Wild corn snakes prefer habitats such as overgrown fields, forest openings, trees, palmetto flatwoods and abandoned or seldom-used buildings and farms, from sea level to as high as 6,000 feet.

Typically, these snakes remain on the ground until the age of 4 months old but can ascend trees, cliffs and other elevated surfaces. They can be found in the southeastern United States ranging from New Jersey to the Florida Keys and as far west as Texas.
In colder regions, snakes hibernate during winter. However, in the more temperate climate along the coast they shelter in rock crevices and logs during cold weather, and come out on warm days to soak up the heat of the sun, a process known as thermoregulation. During cold weather, snakes are less active and therefore hunt less.

Corn Snakes Natural Habitats

There are different species Types of these Corn Snakes, but, compared to most, quite Harmless and rather nice to have a round to get rid of the Rodent's and disease carrier's of such four legged Varmint's .

I certainly hope not... very aggressive for a non-venomous snake... and the coloring seems way off.

Still awaiting more 'proof,' folks.

Thank you, Bill, for the personal experience reply.

This is the color Corn Snakes turn before they begin their Shed, they turn almost white in color and return to brilliant Orange after the process. ;) So, I personally think this particular Snake picture you posted is of a "Corn Snake" just before it sheds it's skin.

As for aggressiveness, it is a snake that feeds on other rodents and such, if they are hungry or threatened, they will defend as any other snake being aggressively pursued or feeling tormented would react. When they are famished, they will get more aggressive, but after they feed, they are good for about 10-14 days before hunt begins again for sustenance.

Wouldn't steer you wrong my friend, if I wasn't this sure, I would have said nothing about the inquiry as to it's Species Type. ;)

Thank you, Bill, for the personal experience reply.

I have seen these Species of Snakes in every phase of their growth, this one is only a bit different due to it's advanced age, and keep in mind, they can get up to several feet long, so, no real 'Mystery' here, just nature in it's changing phases my friend.

This is a tough one.

Our beloved family member Little Bit passed Friday, January 10, 2014, on a cold, damp rainey afternoon in North Georgia.

Our 15-year beloved family member had a stroke 5 weeks ago and even with the 4 ounces of Essiac tea twice a day and round-the-clock love and attention, her condition attempted to stabilize, but soon deteriorated to the point of no return.

The last two days, I hand-fed her rare rib-eye steak and pork chops after she eschewed her favorite Gravy Train, augmented with cheeseburgers and Love.

After not being able to walk without falling over for most of Thursday and not being able to rise, shivering and convulsing on that fateful morning, I took her to our friend Dr. George Lent, the person who has cared for her since spaying.

After a lengthy consultation and every avenue explored, we came to the conclusion that this was not a quality life for my friend any more and, and he gave her a shot to put her asleep in my arms... the above picture.

After I left, he gave her the shot to stop her heart and afterward took her to his farm and provided a dignified interment in the hospital pet cemetery in the Blue Ridge mountains...Eternity with a view.

We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle...even though 15 years seems like a very long time.

Now, as I write this, on another rainy day in North Georgia, I can still feel Little Bit's presense...a warm glow comes through the tears, slowly creeping down through my fingertips to the surface of the now-wet keyboard.

I feel that I gave as good as I got from the relationship that started when she came into my possession at 4 weeks, a rather small being - the runt of a 9-pup litter - and I treasured every moment we shared.

Some of my fondest moments revolve around life with Little Bit. I feel I did every thing right by Little Bit and she did right by me. Little Bit has brought me so much joy and happiness - almost a quarter of my adult life - I will never forget her.

People may surprise you with unexpected kindness, but dogs have a depth of loyalty that often we seem unworthy of.

I feel very lucky to have shared that 15 years of unconditional love and I will cherish that feeling the rest of my life. Instead of being heartbroken and babbling like a fool the past few days, I have pulled myself together now and programmed this into my consciousness:

My heart is filled with Unconditional Love for All Beings.

They say when you die and go to heaven all the dogs and cats you've ever had in your life come running to meet you.

Until that day, rest in peace, my dear friend Little Bit.
