Westinghouse Electric Co. said Monday it has completed all 157 fuel assemblies and related components needed to operate its first AP1000 nuclear reactor. The Sanmen Unit 1 nuclear power plant in Zhejiang province, China, is scheduled to begin generating electricity in 2013.

It is being powered by the Westinghouse AP1000, an advanced passive nuclear reactor pioneered by the Cranberry-based company. The zirconium tubing for the fuel assemblies was produced at Westinghouse's manufacturing plant in Blairsville, Indiana County. The fuel assemblies were produced at the company's facility in Columbia, S.C.

The Sanmen unit is the first of eight nuclear power plants under development that employ the AP1000 reactor -- including three more in China, two in Georgia and two in South Carolina

Wonderful news, Sky Otter, as I have been waiting for a Chinese Reactor like Ive been waiting on a Chinese condom. See the sameness?;)
Its a worry when we sub out Reactor technology to a potential enemy of state, and it's showing the reason our country is crumbling under the weight of our leader's wallets!
Im in Florida, so it doesnt sit well with me, and it's a fact that anything designed or built in any way by the Chinese is a crappy product, because it's their business model.

We will never know if the zirconium tubing was built to the right specs, either, as westinghouse is one of the biggest sellouts in industry, and will cut corners in a heartbeat to save investors money.

Im putting on my rad badge, and keeping an eye to the North for that mushroom cloud from Georgia, that inevitably will come.:(
